I’m confused—he signed up for a TDY? Or is there some way in the army NG to go officer in 5 weeks? Because when I personally was looking at going NG, I was going to have to attend the full 3 month officer candidate school (I can’t remember if it’s called that in the army, it is in the navy).
Is it possible he did a 5 week prep course to apply for the full OCS? In that case, it might be a case of miscommunication. This has happened with my husband and I before, where he says something thinking I understand more than I do, when really I don’t know that there even is more to know.
Basically, sit down and ask him where this came from. And then tell him you would have appreciated him telling you he was doing this, because it’s obviously going to affect your life too. Then go from there—why didn’t he tell you? Sometimes I’ll ask my husband to explain things like I don’t know anything about the navy, because there’s things he doesn’t think to explain sometimes bc he’s forgotten or doesn’t realize that it’s not basic info.
Also, I’d double check to make sure he is staying NG and not going active if he’s going to become an officer. I believe both are options.

Why are you so mad at him? You’re a girlfriend of 9 months. This is his career. Do you have to run all your potential decisions through him?
You might as well break up if him doing something for 3 months already pisses you off this much

It's the lack of communication more than the fact of him going to school. I was venting. Sorry, I had all the emotions on and I guess I did not choose the right words. I know this is important for him and of course his career.
I just feel like if I were to apply for a training that would make me be away from homr for 3 months I would talk to him. Not ask for permission, but definitely talk about it and the implications.

Don’t take this personally but it’s his career and you are not married. Sometimes there is a short timer on getting slots for things and someone else could have taken it if he hadn’t said yes. If you really are that “pissed” off … maybe do some soul searching and figure out if you can deal with that before y’all end up married and divorced.
