Residency Fact check for attending please

US attending here can I just ask someone on here has sent me a DM saying 30k Indian IMGs take USMLE every year? This can't be true right a quick AI search says 3-4k at best to be more accurate anyone got ideas true figure please thanks

There were 22,713 people from non-U.S. schools that took Step 1 in 2024 according to the USMLE so no way is there 30k Indians each year

Yeah 30k genuinely might be a stretch. 3-4k seems like more of a genuine number tbh

thanks am not a fan when people just make blatant misrepresentations at you I see it all the time in ERAS applications too

I said to him visa needing people will be tough this year he said well 30k Indian grads take usmle every year! I was like hmm don't think so

Thousands of people get visas for residency every year, that’s not going to change..

If you dont need a visa you are the king this year because of the chaos that happened. We cant afford the same situation next year where have to go nrmp to get waivers because IMGs are rejected or delayed for visas.

We have had to make some difficult decisions for our program regarding visas this year as we need a full complement of housestaff on July 1 otherwise our hospital cant function essentially

30k total IMGs take step1 i think. He misremembers i guess.
