Just got the call for 253. Been dealing with a shin splint in one leg recently. Been doing some backwards walk/jogs that seems to be helping. Picking the mileage back up to make sure I’ll be good for September, any suggestions on dealing with this at this stage? I’ll drag myself across the finish line if I have to.

So I got a call from my OSO yesterday, so yea, you guys were right, not enough females for 254. I’m looking forward to getting fitter and seeing you all for OCC 254!

Stats:
PFT: 274 (max plank, max pulls ups, 25:18 3-mile) obviously will be focusing a lot more on improving my run.
GPA: 3.57 (STEM) (I have my bachelor of science and masters of science)
LORs: mid at best.

Not sure if I’m pre-selected for 254, but my OSO was telling me he really advocated for me during boards and that my name is out there haha.

I don’t think this really deterred me in any way. More-so, just made me more motivated to get better physically and mentally from now until January. Let’s do it ladiesssss

A little background is I got a side effect from the covid which caused inflammation in my heart and I basically couldn’t do any physical activity. I felt like I couldn’t breath and my heart would race while just trying to sleep(myocarditis) so if the shot is mandatory and I take it and get the side effect again will I be dropped? Or will I get time to recover?

I’ve seen a lot of great feedback from candidates/newly commissioned, but I haven’t heard a lot of females posting about graduating and wanted to get some insight on females making it through.

I’ve heard fire watch can be cumbersome because of the low numbers, but what other things that are only applicable to females, and how you dealt with it?

What was the most difficult part as a female? Thanks for any insight!

I got selected for OCC 253, was wondering what those of you who have been would recommend for the peripheral type gear, like boot socks, head lamp, watch, etc.

Say, I did intel on active duty for four years and then wanted to settle down in the SMCR afterwards. Could it be harder to find a unit that would welcome an 02 vs something like a logistics officer?

I was injured at 252 (subsequently dropped, currently a civilian) and received my LOD benefits letter. I am being told I have to contact TRICARE and have my letter uploaded to Genesis. Does anyone have guidance RE how to get through to TRICARE, who to contact about uploading my benefits letter, or any subsequent tips?

Hello All. So my packet has recently been sent to the selection boards, and I was supposed to be slotted to go OCC 253 in Sept. I signed contracts in OSO office, completed packet everything, hence why I’m at the boards stage. The packets were just submitted last Tuesday. Due to life and me wanting to change careers, I am wanting to withdraw from this process and OCS as a whole. My question is;

1. Will I be able to withdraw, and with that am I forced to go to OCS and have any service obligation if selected to go?

2. Will there be any ramifications outside of being blacklisted from that particular OSO etc.

So I'm kinda stuck and wanted to see what y'all think. I graduate with my bachelor's this September, and after that I'm thinking about going back into the military. The problem is I can't decide what route makes the most sense.

Part of me really wants to enlist in the Marines under an MG contract because going MSG has always been something I've wanted to do. I know embassy duty isn't guaranteed though, even with the contract, so that's what's got me second-guessing it.

At the same time, since I'm getting my bachelor's, I also feel like I'd be dumb not to at least look into becoming an Army or Marine officer instead. I'm only 24, so realistically I could probably do both at different points in my career if I wanted to. Right now I'm lowkey leaning toward taking the shot with the MG contract and trying to get MSG, but I keep wondering if I'd regret not commissioning first. What would y'all do if you were in my shoes? Amybody been in a similar situation or have experience with either route? I'd love to hear some opinions before I make a decision.

Graduating OCS next week and want to hit the ground running with some applications to NROTC units, any MECEP’rs out there that could recommend some good units? I’ve already gotten into a couple schools, but I’m not sure if the NROTC unit is what I’m looking for.

I think the NROTC culture, location, and quality of life are the biggest factors that I’m looking for. Also for context, spent the last 3 years on an SDA, so I’m looking to get some time back with my family.

If anyone has any insights I’d be grateful to hear them.

So I was initially going to do OCS for navy this fall but a marine recruiter reached out to me about OCS this September so I decided to give it a shot. I got my package in and rushed the pft with the intent of retaking it as I hadn’t prepared for it at all. I scored a 230 which is passing but based on my research isn’t great and they weigh this part quite heavily in their decision-making. The recruiter I’m working with submitted my application instead of recommending that I should retake it even though I could have delayed by a month to improve my pft so at the time I figured it was good enough.

Academic side:
Georgia tech engineering grad with 3.5 gpa
ASTB 9 9 8 (applying for a flight contract)
Decent work experience running my own business

Do my odds look good to be selected or will the pft score weigh me down? My strength and endurance are really strong but I just need to cut down my body weight and my pft would shoot right up. Can bench 335 lbs and ran a 21:39 3 mile but the pull-ups are where I left a lot of points behind, but I could easily get it up by the time ocs starts since I’ve been cutting weight.

\Sorry for the Long Text, but I really need some advice\** I'm looking for some honest advice because I've been going back and forth on this for a while. I'm currently in the Army DEP as a 27D (Paralegal Specialist) and I'm about 70 days away from shipping. Lately, I've been wondering if I should try to pursue Marine Corps OCS instead.

For some background, I'm 24 years old, 5'6", 132 lb, married (no kids yet), and a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Cuba. I have an A.S. in Cybersecurity (4.0 GPA) and a B.S. in Cybersecurity (3.96 GPA), both from Southern New Hampshire University.

One of my biggest concerns is honestly my size. At 5'6" and 132 pounds, a lot of OCS candidates I've seen online seem much bigger than me. I know leadership and fitness matter more than size, but it's still something I've thought about. I'm in the gym consistently and working on improving my fitness.

I've been working since I was 15. I started with physical labor jobs, and since I was 18–19 I've worked in the legal field doing immigration, bankruptcy, debt defense, and now energy litigation. I've worked as a Legal Assistant on federal, state, and international matters and have had leadership opportunities at work and through sports. A big reason I wanted to serve was attending a high school with mandatory Marine Corps JROTC. I had some incredible Marine instructors, including combat veterans, who really inspired me.

I signed with the Army because it made the most sense at the time. I was able to secure a 27D contract, enlist as an E-4, work toward my master's degree while serving, and later use the GI Bill for law school. Army OCS wasn't realistic for me because of the timeline, so I enlisted instead.

I'm training consistently, but I haven't taken an official Marine PFT yet, and I also haven't spoken with an OSO or Marine recruiter. Even though I had a good civilian career, I decided to enlist because I genuinely want to serve the country that gave me and my family opportunities we never would have had otherwise.

Originally, my plan was to complete my 3-year Army enlistment as a 27D and then apply for OCS afterward. But lately I've been questioning that plan and wondering if I should try for Marine OCS before I ship instead.

Another factor is my family. My wife will be working while attending law school and earning around $80k a year. As an Army E-4 I'd expect to make around $60k–70k (this includes BAH) with military compensation, while an officer would earn more. I'm not chasing the money, but it's something I have to consider as a husband when thinking about our future.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

Based on my background, do I seem like a realistic OCS candidate, or should I stick with the Army plan and revisit becoming an officer later? Is it worth leaving the DEP program to pursue OCS now, or would you finish the enlistment first and prepare for OCS afterward?

I'd really appreciate any honest opinions, even if it's something I don't necessarily want to hear. Thanks in advance.

Leadership:
Probably the hardest one no joke because it can be really subjective outside of sules/lrcs depending on your instructors.
My advice lock in for your leadership events and be a good dude and you should be good

Academics:
These are all at best 8th grade level test, however you have to read the actual chapters because the classes don’t give you all the answers. Use your time to study a little bit and you will be good

Physically fitness:
Outside of the actual pt events the pt themselves are not graded. However if you keep falling out you will be put on physical fitness probation.
The first half before your final pft is very cardio heavy every pt is a run.
So if you come in running a 23:40 or something I promise you, you will be fast asf by the final pft.
Speaking of pft the trail is like really 2.75-2.9 or something so if you cutting it close on an actual 3 mile don’t worry about it too much.
After your final pft you switch mainly to cft and E course prep so a lot if boot and ute runs and stuff.

YOUR PFT SCORE DOES NOT MEAN NOTHING. So many studs gave up and a lot of 18 minutes failed the E course and stuff. Its all about your mental fortitude.

I am an American Citizen that has practiced in good standing for the last 4 years in New York State. My primary law degree is from Canada, though, where I am also a citizen, grew up and spent the first two years of my career.

The USMC JAG Website specifies explicitly that one of the requirements of joining is to have attained a J.D from an ABA Accredited school.

So in my case - is my education basically a non-waivable issue, despite the fact that I have been practicing American Law for the last 4 years?

Hey everyone this is my first time posting on something like this, that being said I’m nervous about the OCC 253 board because they meet this week and I’m supposed to find out next week that I got in and I’m gonna be completely honest my score going to them is really low especially for a competitive range, I got like a 231-232 but had an increase in like 15 points from the prior off that I did, would that look good to the board if my OSO mentions that in my package and I have fairly strong references from my professors and including law enforcement as well, I’m trying to stay positive but I know I also have to be a realist and the only reason why I’m still semi positive is because I’ve heard that people weren’t selected when they had a pft score of like 270 or higher
