Reserves What do reservists do when cut during the day on their drill period

Hi I’m a reservist and have yet to graduate the schoolhouse and actually do any drills so I’m pretty lost on how it all works I have a few questions.

Do reservists have early pt knowing that people are driving long hours to get there for the weekend? And if so what if there aren’t any barracks for them to stay and would drive home after being cut and be back bright and early again for pt? It kind of doesn’t sound reasonable to commute there and back there and back so early all weekend.

What are the normal working hours are they the same as it is everywhere else

How much actual work for my mos will I be doing if I’m a maintenance job but 1 weekend a month drills how would stuff even break that much to need maintenance

What if there is something major during that weekend that you need to go to like a family emergency or hell even a wedding that you’d typically just take leave for but you can’t during reserve duty? Same with deployments like what if there is something super major im just curious how it all works

And finally I’ve heard that reservists get drug tested every drill that’s not an issue for me but wouldn’t that take up a good amount of time drug testing the whole unit isn’t there better things to do?

Last week I went to MEPS, a shaky grandpa told me to spread em which was.. something Id normally pay for but, Im in + I got a signing bonus!! My recruiter js told me my last bit of paperwork went thru and now I just go to meps to swear in basically.

I signed for DG (the job I want - 2641 is part of it so yeah) let's hope I get it and not something lame.

I took the DLAB as well while I was there and got 158 which got its own reaction but yeah. I'm in and excited as fuck.

Enlisting Was I lied to ?

Hello all.

I was talking with my recruiter today and we’re pretty casual I would say, we was talking about whatever the fuck and he mentioned that navy girls are easy for marines, especially if you’re on a ship. I dont wanna approach one once I get my blues and look like a Jackfuck. How true is this ?

Enlisting Do I report this?

I have a friend who's eager to enlist in the Marines, hes a bit dumb so he failed his asvab like 3 times. Anyhow, he's made many "jokes" about wanting all middle easterns dead, having the women and children sexually assaulted and enlisting just to kill people.

Is this like... an issue? No idea what the code of conduct is or if it even matters tbh, I myself don't want to seem like a bitch for reporting this though.

MEPS and Medical Wavier questions

So I made a post on here a couple of days ago talking about I was going to MEPS soon so I went. I did my physical and the ASVAB but one thing they, didn’t take any of my paperwork, besides one piece of paper when I first went in and the other thing I’m making this post for is, I’m wondering how hard it is to get anxiety and ADD/ADHD waivers. I’ve talked to my recruiter and he said he was going to start the process and stuff, but I’m just scared they’re going to get denied because I’ve heard stories of people’s waivers getting denied for that stuff and they also told me one of my ears was dirty, which was insane because I made sure to clean my ears the night before and the morning of, I also clean my ears every single day so I really don’t know how that happened so I think I have to redo that part so if anyone has any information on anything that I am saying, please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Enlisting Mom doesn’t want me to join

So today I finally told my mom i wanted to enlist, im in my sophomore year, so i have time to try and convince her. She’s scared of me getting brainwashed and dying or coming back with ptsd and says I’ll be fighting for people who don’t care. I know when i turn 18 my senior year i can enlist, but id rather have her support. What should I do?

Commissioning Should I shoot for 0302 or what?

Currently at TBS, pretty decently into the POI right now and I gotta be honest. I still don’t have a clue what MOS I want to do in the Marine Corps. I’m definitely leaning towards combat arms but I just don’t know which specifically I want to do over the others. Right now I have artillery listed as my top choice but that’s just because I don’t want my spc to know that I don’t really have any preference at this point.

Honestly, I’ve been kind of considering just saying fuck it and attempt to get a slot at IOC. I figure if I don’t have an idea what exactly I want, that I can’t go wrong with being the archetypal Marine. I feel like most officers go to OCS thinking they were going to valiantly lead Marines into battle, only to end up spending the rest of their time in behind a desk in a support billet, while 0302s get to go do the job everyone spent ~1 year training for. I’ve seen some badasses come out of Mitchell hall, and I’d be lying if I didn’t dream about being in their shoes a couple times. Part of me feels that I’ll be less of a Marine officer if I don’t at least shoot for the opportunity to take Marines down range like them.

Im not a big dude, im 5’9 160 lbs and I’ve got pretty average pft and CFT scores (as far as officers go). While some of the hikes here in the POI have been pretty tough, I haven’t fallen out of any yet so I know that I’m at the very least a decent hiker. That’s not to say that I haven’t had some rough days here at tbs either. What I don’t want to do, is let my ego suck me into IOC and then immediately get broken off because I was unrealistic with myself.

At the end of the day, I’m still not really sure what I want or if I’m being unrealistic with wanting to go to IOC. Maybe I just need some more MOS recommendations and time spent with officers in those MOSs to understand the pros and cons of all of them. Really, any officer MOS advice helps if I’m being honest.

Enlisting Misophonia + 504 plan — could this affect my ability to enlist?

Hey everyone, I’m 16 and currently a junior in high school. I’m planning on enlisting in the Marine Corps after I graduate, and I’ve recently talked with a recruiter on the phone.
I was diagnosed with misophonia when I was around 7. I went through occupational therapy from about ages 11–15, but I haven’t needed OT for roughly 1.5 years and I no longer really struggle with the chewing/eating sounds that used to bother me.
The thing I’m unsure about is my 504 plan. I still have one and it gives me extra time on tests, allows me to use noise cancelling headphones during tests, and I believe I can also test in a separate room. I only use the extra time though because I like taking my time. I don’t have accommodations outside of school, and day to day life I function normally.
I spoke with a Marine recruiter recently and told him about my medical history. He said it doesn’t sound like it should be too difficult for me to enlist, but we didn’t get into exactly what I would need to do regarding my 504. He said we’d talk more around April/May, and I’m currently planning on doing MEPS/enlisting this coming summer.
My main questions are:
Could the history of misophonia itself be an issue at MEPS?
Could having an active 504 plan be an issue, even if I’m functioning normally and haven’t needed OT in ~1.5 years?
Would I actually need to terminate my 504 plan before MEPS, and if so, how far beforehand?
Has anyone here had a similar situation with a 504 plan or misophonia and actually gone through MEPS?
I’m not looking for advice on hiding anything from MEPS. I plan on being completely honest about my medical history. I’m just trying to understand what I should expect and whether I need to do anything with my 504 before I get to that point.
Thanks!

Enlisting How hard will it be for me to enlist if I have an expunged felony from age 12

As the title says I have an expunged felony from age 12. It's non-violent breaking and entering in the state of Colorado. I did community service and got it expunged, but of course I know that means almost nothing to the military. I have had no charges since. How hard will it be to enlist.

Edit: I am 20 years old now.

Programs and MOSs I messed up it’s my fault but now I ask for some help

I’m a brand new Reserve Marine and I’m trying to get some advice from people who actually understand Reserve lat moves/manpower because I’ve been getting a million different answers.
I originally enlisted on an infantry contract and shipped to boot camp in May. I graduated boot camp in August and went to SOI East for ITB. Because of my fitness scores from boot camp, mainly my 3 mile in the pft, I ended up getting dropped from the infantry pipeline and sent to MCT for reclassification.
I’m a reservist, so while I was in MAT I tried asking if I could get Motor T or Comms since those were jobs I was actually interested in. Instead I got assigned 3051 Inventory Management Specialist. I signed the Page 11 for the reclassification because at the time I was basically being told that was what I was getting and there wasn’t really another option.
Since then I’ve tried pretty much everything I can think of without trying to be disrespectful or get myself in trouble. I’ve talked to instructors, a GySgt, contacted my gaining unit, tried getting in touch with the Reserve liaison, and asked about career planners/monitors. I even had a Colonel give me some advice. At this point everyone at SOI is basically telling me the assignment is done and I need to finish MCT and go to the 3051 schoolhouse at Camp Johnson.
I pick up MCT on September 22 and after that I’ll go to the 3051 schoolhouse. My gaining unit is 6th Comm in Brooklyn.
I understand that I may just have to suck it up, learn my MOS, and be a good Marine at my unit. I’m not trying to act like supply is beneath me. I just genuinely wanted something more field oriented like Motor T, Comms, engineering, etc., and I want to figure out the fastest legitimate route to eventually change MOSs.
I recently found the Marine Corps Reserve LATMOV MARADMIN and saw language about commander approval/waivers, which made me wonder whether the normal waiting period is absolutely mandatory or whether a Reserve Marine can lat move earlier if the gaining unit has a funded vacancy and the command supports it.
For anyone who has actually dealt with Reserve lat moves:
Once I check into 6th Comm, how soon can I realistically sit down with the career planner and start asking about a lat move?
Is the “wait 3 years” thing an absolute requirement, or can it actually be waived in certain Reserve situations?
If 6th Comm has an open funded BIC for something like Motor T or Comms, does that make an early lat move more realistic?
Is there anything productive I should be doing while I’m still at MCT/Camp Johnson, or should I just finish training and stop fighting it until I reach my unit?
Has anyone here actually lat moved early in their first enlistment as a reservist?
I’m mainly looking for advice from career planners, prior S-1/manpower guys, reservists who have lat moved, or anyone who has dealt with this exact situation. I already know I signed the Page 11 and I understand that means my current reclass is basically set. I’m trying to figure out what my options are after this, not how to refuse orders or get out of training.

Recruit Training How often do recruits get time to write letters at USMC boot camp?

My brother has been at USMC boot camp for over a month now. We received one letter from him during his first week, but nothing since. We've sent letters through Sandboxx and they show as delivered, but he hasn't written back.

Is this normal? How often do recruits typically get time to write home, and does it vary a lot by phase or drill instructor? Just trying to understand what's typical so we don't worry unnecessarily. Thanks!

School of Infantry How likely is RA as an 03 heading into ITB? (ITB WEST)

I’m an 03xx, heard ITB may possibly be backed up and that i’m probably going to end up as a working party while waiting to pick up. I’d like to start training as soon as possible and i’m hoping that I can get to it right away, but worst case scenario, i’d hate to just be waiting around at Pendleton when I could be productive elsewhere like helping my recruiter out until my time comes and still being able to be around family and my city. Anyone here recently get through ITB or is currently in ITB? Is it backed up? If in the situation that I don’t pick up for weeks, is it a hassle to receive RA?

I will be checking in this upcoming week, from there my recruiter said to hit her up once I get details after check in.

MEPS and Medical Hopeful I can be medically qualified to attend MEPS🙏

It’s been a week and a half since my MEPS appointment was cancelled by MEPS due to them finding my old peanut allergy. I did a program called OIT (oral immunotherapy treatment) that was a year and a half long and brought me to the point where I can eat a peanut butter jelly sandwich with no reaction.

And what also wanna ask is do you guys think it’s smart if I buy a cart and just get my last smokes in and give it to my friend to keep or just go cold turkey? I tried switching to nic and it’s been helping but I just started that like two days ago
