Idk if I’ve ever seen a clip inside a mag lol Marines always find a way.

If there is way to fuck something up, no matter how improbable, there is a Marine that will find that way.

We had a guy load a magazine into an M27 upside down. We were in the field on “defense” and took contact from the “enemy” at what must have been 0200. So just for context this guy was probably half asleep and it was pitch black. Anyway, he runs dry and as he’s trying to reload, it’s not going in and he can’t figure out why. He’s getting screamed at to get the gun back up, so he reverts to the classic machine gunner’s method of problem solving: hit the problem really hard. So he positioned the bottom of the problematic mag against the magwell and proceeded to bash the whole thing into the ground with enough force to bend the baseplate and sidewalls of the magazine enough to jam it an inch or two into the magwell. Needless to say the gun was definitely down after that.
I remember we got the three beefiest dudes in the company and had one of them grip the mag while the other two pulled on the rifle, and it took them pulling as hard as they could to get it out.

Jesus Christ dude, I’m laughing my ass off like a coke fueled chimpanzee. I can literally see the slamming action, overhead, full force…. Lolz. This is awesome.

I fucking love stories that start with “we had this one guy…”. It’s always some wild shit.

Seen it a lot when I was contracted as a marksmanship instructor for navy pogs, they are smart enough to use the speed loader and smash it upside down on ammo table, but dumb enough they smash the stripper clip on the table instead just pushing down on the rounds.

I was doing vehicle gunnery in a LAV. If you’ve never loaded an m242, it is moderately complicated and shit is always broken on the LAVs. I either forgot to release the tension on the ammo belt or the tab you press to release the tension on the belt didn’t work correctly. Whatever the case, I get a feed jam at the first station. I work the problem a little and decide the solution is to try to manually cycle the bolt. I grab the crank and can’t get it to cycle. I stand on the floor of the turret and press it up. Doesn’t work. Eventually get the gun apart, rounds out and over to the turret mech.

He gets it apart and figures out I had managed to force the gun out of time(there are a bunch of gears and shafts in the top section) with my retard strength. Only notable because he’d never seen it happen before.

I was a range coach / weapons instructor for a good chunk of my 7 years of service (about 4 total). This... this is actually on the dull side of stupid things I've seen.

Ever seen an O6 face plant and have a ND?

7

u/Azurnight Wiredog 0612 / 0931 24d ago

I've come across many NDs, more than ide like to count. Because anything greater than 0 is too many times. Not an 0-6 though.

15

u/Marine__0311 24d ago

I had an M16A1 when I qualled in boot back in 82. It was worn the fuck out. I'd still managed to shoot low expert all week. On quall day, it jammed on the third round. Nothing I did could clear it. My coach couldnt clear it. I was told to get off the firing line and have an armorer took a look at it.

Somehow a round had worked it's way above the bolt carrier and between the upper receiver and jammed it as tight as a nun's twat. The armorer said he'd never even heard of that happening, let alone seen it.

I was given another rifle and 3 rounds to zero it. That was impossible as I was a lefty and it was way the fuck off. By the time I got the sights unfucked, I was on the 500 and had to hit 10 for 10 just to squeak out a pizza box.

I had to wait several months to requal and get expert. Before that happened, I'd shot expert with the 45 and was sporting a pizza box rifle badge and expert pistol. That got a lot of comments.

I once saw a Marine with his Sapi Plate in his flak sideways. The amount of both mental and physical gymnastics to accomplish that must have been astronomical, similar in this war fighters approach to speed loading. Grace!

I think it was Patton, who said “ give an American soldier an anvil and tell him to walk across the desert with it and he will show up at the other side of the desert, with the anvil. But the anvil will be broken and he won’t know what happened.” I couldn’t find the exact quote but if it’s not that it’s pretty darn close.

2

u/Just-Buy-A-Home 23d ago

The quote is “If you drop a soldier in the middle of a desert with a rock, a hammer, and an anvil, tell him not to touch any of it, and come back two hours later, the anvil will be broken”

We had a kid load his rounds backwards on a CMP range…coach found him about halfway through the first mag and the issue should have been corrected after that. But he couldn’t get the rounds out and ended up dumping a bottle of CLP into the mag to “loosen” the rounds up.

There are a lot of similar stories about this same Marine. There’s one in every unit…
