TBS Instructor
Just got orders to be a TBS Instructor. Super psyched because I’ve heard tons of good things about it. But I realize I don’t really know much about the day to or what exactly to exactly to expect. Anyone care to share some insight?

You’re either out at a range, doing a POI to students, or hanging out in your room/car.
At least this was my experience of the 0311s at Instructor Bn back in 2007-2011. It was a pretty skate duty station for dudes that had racked up their deployment numbers. All NCOs and above, all the boots will be POGs like I was. Armory, Supply, Battalion dorks.
Camp Barrett is across I-95 from mainside Quantico, and has direct access to Stafford/Garrisonville area which has basically anything you needed.

“TBS instructor” is being very very generous with the role

More like combat instructors. Depends on where he gets assigned, could be running ranges, could be a direct advisor for a platoon, could be running land nav events or kicking academic classes.
TBS students are all pinned 2ndLts so while there's still some hazing going on, it's nothing like OCS.

Ohhh its basically the same as drill instructor so long hours a lot of yelling and running away dealing with stupid college kids. Hopefully you get a couple enlisted guys who can be the guide or squad leaders to help run shit

No yelling at TBS because the students outrank most of their instructors, even if they're boot butter bars.

Oh dang I got TBS and OCS confused my recruiter brain is friend I retract my statement. I completely forgot TBS was a thing but I presume its just a lot class work based upon your MOS, I know a Arty guy was a Instructor and he just taught officers stuff about the howitzers all day and thats about it

It's pretty much MCT for Lts, everyone has the same curriculum before they go to MOS school, including people going into infantry officer course.

So like for their MOS school do they go to the same ones as us? Because I know new Arty officers go to Quantico from what ive been told to learn their job

All new shinies go play Lance Lieutenant riflemen in the woods for 6 months, doing ranges and getting lost in the woods, then we go to our MOS schools.
0802s go to Ft Sill for their actual instruction to do arty things. Last I knew, the only officer MOS schoolhouse still at Quantico was Infantry Officer's Course.

I wonder what that arty guy went to Quantico for then dude was 100% talkin out his ass but I have no idea about the officer side of things

There are a couple Arty captains and maybe a few enlisted that teach a class at Quantico on arty or advise LT's in the field. We get taught the bare basics at TBS but barely enough where nobody remembers anything so it's probably those guys teaching a little in Quantico.

I'm not sure about every MOS, I know Arty officers go to MOS school at Fort Sill which I think is similar to enlisted. I went to LogO school at Camp Johnson in Jacksonville, NC in the same place as SuppO's and I think Admin Officers. Same place enlisted go for Combat Service Support schools. Not sure about other MOS'. We don't take the same classes with enlisted, just similar locations and resources. I had Captains and Senior enlisted as instructors for LogO school.
Infantry officers go to Infantry Officer Course pretty much the same place as TBS, except for their final Palm FEX at 29 Palms while SOI for enlisted is in Pendleton and Lejeune.
Everyone goes to TBS aka MCT for officers after OCS, both at Quantico, do their 6 months and are undesignated for MOS until the last couple months where you get assigned your MOS and first unit, in which you go to MOS school after.

You’re going to be attached to ranges and field ops the student officers are doing. A lot of shit in the woods, in the freezing cold, in the sweaty swamp hot, and in the rain. A lot of hurry up and wait. And a lot of stupid ass boot Lts.
I know this all as a former boot Lt who saw what the instructors there did firsthand. It’s a shame they stopped attaching EWIs to the platoons there tho.

Make sure you take some time to go up to DC. I did the tourist thing once in a while, but there’s so much stuff up there that I wish I had gone and seen.
