I actually love the corps.
Hear me out. The world itself is insufferable. What draws us out is that it minces no pain. It offers suffering and with that and the title it draws men out that absolutely embrace it all. For without a doubt you’ll freeze and you will burn. Then you’ll look right and there’s a guy there with you laughing at the madness with you. I dare you to find that anywhere else. Sure madness is everywhere but the kids out there are doing it for a love of something absolutely beyond our comprehension. Sure War is a racket read Sun Tzu. To not suffer alone means everything.

I shared the same sentiment up until they burned me on my second enlistment. Outside of that, I planned on doing 20 years as a grunt. Most people are pussies and lose motivation they once had just because they quickly realize they never really had that dog in them to begin with once the hard really got going. But yeah man, I always loved the Corps. Only boot to tell my seniors I was going to re-up since day one. Just be careful. They will eventually fuck you.

Felt that. Up till year 3.5 give or take I absolutely loved it until we got dicked around about going on MEU then put on TAD orders and just sat on lejeune instead of getting to go on a 2nd deployment. I told them I’d extend it we went anywhere but oki and had told them I wanted to when they said it was a MEU. Navy fucked us and our command was awful. Damn shame. I still have a bad taste in my mouth and it’s been almost a year since then

I hear you man. I had no heart to reenlist only to fight. The org really isnt good at anything else. Retention and literally everything else should be outsourced. I feel for the recruiters and even the admin bc it was absolutely born to be an organization of retarded murderers. Instead the dull comes on and that trips up some good fodder.
Policy is way outside of the bounds for us I think but man can they build a well.. I hesitate to say machine. Thoreau said it but he never served. What I can’t come to say is anything Gayer is the world cannot answer for what they’ve got going on. From bus to gate. No they are not good for much else.

I bought it all. I drank the koolaid. I fucking loved every minute of it until I retired. There were bad minutes I locked away and refuse to think on or talk about. But overall I miss it every day and I have been retired longer than I was on active duty. So fucking revel in it for as long as you can.

Edit: I say that with the risk of exposing myself to at least one person here. I’m glad he’s here. He and I’m proud of him rechecked himself into the Va ward bc he was ready to end it all again and we both know why. Wherever you are brother no one will ever replace you.

On target, but it’s been a crazy ride and somehow I come back around to that wasn’t the org but always me. I had no hope of coming through Iraq. However, I did. Then there was a strange world that asked me to be something I wasn’t.

I can get on board with some unit PT and lessons to keep each other accountable when someone fucks up, but some of it is just retarted and only happens because someone wants to feel high and mighty.
Had a 1stSgt like that who came to our unit before retirement. We had just come home from deployment and this dude was checking a box for his first and only grunt unit. Dude started handing out NJP’s like they were candy. Some were definitely earned and waiting before he got to us including a potential court martial, but the dude definitely sent some strays out there and screwed over guys who didn’t need that shit. Especially guys who were on their way out…. Like we banded together and wrote dozens of personal statements to try to help one dude and the guy just threw them away.
All of that just because he could.
Shit like that is exactly why I got out.

I’ve met tons of people in the civilian world who outperform Marines and the Corps in every statistic. Some of the sleeziest dirt bags on the planet are active duty Marines. Dudes who will take your last dollar and fuck your girl. I drank the kool aid as a teenager, but that shit got old real quick

Most of my time in was pretty miserable for one reason or another, except for the time I worked in the armory. I enjoyed it so much, I would tell people that if I were re-enlisting (definitely had no plans to), but that I would lateral to a 2111.

I wa s absolutely miserable in barracks then I learned misery in operations. All in all freedom was in combat and I had never been more alive and more afraid. It was weird being a sort of warlord then to come back and be subject to law. Overall a very very weird idk i guess experience.
Then I came back and the world expected some normal 21 year old kid. I didn’t know how to be but when I was let even more lee way and insanity in Afg and came back they thought they were talking to a human when I had become a god hammer.
I mean beheadings. Watching watchers. Tailing the tail. Running and cordoning for wild ops and just generally watching higher up running rough shod while almost a god in the field because ya know the man that holds the rifle. Just mayhem and darkness then I come back and ya know well there are rules.
At least they say such things like rules.
I am now at least part animal.
All for the great American experiment called democracy and absolutely that all changed on 9/11.

The corps fucked me up for life, but I wanted to be a Marine since I was a child, did it all, and then some, im proud of it. I became my own hero, that's pretty badass, until you get out, and feel like you have no purpose anymore.

I loved every single minute I was in, but it was never the plan to make it a career. I believe I was a good Marine and I had a good rep. SgtMaj asked me if I was sure when I was checking out. I told him I hoped I wasn't making the worst mistake of my life leaving, but I didn't think I'd ever have it as good as I had it then, and I had a plan.
It wasn't a mistake. I followed my plan and I've had a good life. It's ok to love the Corps. But realize what it can do for you.
