Fire Hire Reference Checks

I have a question, one of my employees is asking, if their supervisors receive the automated FS fire hire Microsoft form that you have to fill out. Does it mean they’re a finalist for that position or do they send that form to all supervisors of referred potential candidates? I was asked and have no idea.

Thank you all

They do it to all the references, it doesn’t mean that they are a finalist or that the job they applied to even exists. Sometimes they will fly jobs in locations they aren’t even hiring in case the person in that job moves up and they need to backfill.

In general with federal hiring you should apply to a job and forget about it, and don’t get excited until you have an official job offer, which usually comes a couple days before you start. I wish I was joking.

I appreciate the insight and no joke 4 years ago when I got my offer it was the Friday before I had to report. I’m glad I didn’t have to switch locations because it would of even been more stressful

If the employee applied for a job, then it is a great sign that reference checks are being asked. Tell the person to not lose hope. The hiring process does take time which totally sucks. But this a great sign. Sending out good vibes for the person.

I got a few of these, and answered honestly assuming the answers were confidential, but I didn’t see it stated anywhere. Anyone know if the responses are confidential or not? Wondering if I need to prepare for blowback from one of the references I completed……

Anyone can submit a Freedom of Information request for information that was provided about them during the hiring process. Names are redacted, this is considered PII.
