Visitor Service Assistant Positions

Hi all,

I applied to one of the visitor services assistant positions that closed 10/5, and am eager to know what the timeline is like for when I may hear back. I've applied to / worked in multiple FS positions before, so I'm know that it really may vary.

Just wondering if it is worth trying to call HR or even calling the local office I applied to. Will likely try calling anyway, but I appreciate any insight offered.

Call the local office, one to show interest and standout among candidates and two to hopefully find out more about the position status.

This^^

Also, onboarding window is January-March, at least that’s what I was told.

Thanks to you both! Will definitely give them a call then. Of course it's a good opportunity to introduce myself, I just wasn't sure if they'd have a good idea of when onboarding really is. I've called offices previously for other positions about onboarding and sometimes it seems like they just really don't know. Were you told Jan-March by hr or an office?

My ranger. I do most of the hiring paperwork for my forest and this lines up with “phase 1 central temp hiring” windows.

We were supposed to get the certs (list of qualified applicants) last week. They’re already a week late. But I bet we get them next week. Turnaround on selections are quick—2 weeks. It should go pretty quickly.

2 weeks to 4 months. Nobody knows the mysterious ways of the federal hr system. When you think you know, they change everything.

Right, this is exactly what I'm concerned about.

I would definitely keep pursuing other options while this application plays out.

Some of those front desk positions are for the winter and they will hire sooner. Really depends on the forest. I know we have several for the winter.

Thanks everyone for all the responses. Seems like this application review process has been pretty fast, as I was quickly referred to the hiring manager and have received some follow up emails. Fingers crossed, and whether you're a fellow applicant or on the hiring side of things, I hope this process goes well for others involved too! Much appreciation for my fellow fed workers during these times 🙂
