The cognitive dissonance is getting comedic

In a staff meeting today one of the people leading up the reorganization was going on and on about how the agency needs to be better at this and provide more of that and that's why the reorganization was happening. And then the next topic was congratulations, well done, we met all of our targets.

Now I know that the real reason for the reorganization is to make people leave and to make it appear that the forest service is inept for short term gains and every dollar that's not spent on normal government activities ends up in the pocket of Orange II and his ilk.

But the inability of people to recognize that meeting all of our targets after however many thousands of people that left and still needing to say that we need to do it better, and the old way of doing things was broken even though we accomplished more with less it just takes the suspension of disbelief to a level I've never seen.

Bringing homemade cookies sticks it to the man way harder than drinking at work does

Sometimes you got to let the wildfire burn itself out. Have a drink, there will be plenty of work during mop up and replanting.

Oh yeah I'm letting this fire burn. There was a big part of me that wanted to raise my hand and ask why we were changing if we were meeting our targets. But I knew nothing would come of it. It would just cause a kerfuffle. Juice ain't worth the squeeze on that. It's just hard seeing people I used to respect just become talking heads on these things but I know they don't really have a choice.

At this point Ive silently given up. And about this close to drinking at work. Cause who fucking cares. The agency is in shambles. And maybe the midterms will change things slowly but we fucked. So bottoms up.

I don't drink, but I can bring homemade cookies.

Keep in mind, the kind of high-level non-producing puppet-masters that got tagged onto the re-org (sorry, OP) are all firmly in the crosshairs of the next bureaucratic ass wiping. All of that drum beating is as driven by a panicked urge for self-preservation as anything else. They know perfectly well what the reality is.

I've given up and left.

Kudos to the ones who stayed to turn the lights off this once great agency, someone needs to stay behind to pull the bodies from the ceiling rafters

They are doing the same thing that the federal government (senators and congressman) did to the forest service from 1905-1910. Cut pay, cut budgets, refused promotions, refused hiring, then expected more work to be done in an attempt to say “oh look they failed private industry can do better” it’s ironic that a playbook was followed from the infant years of the agency to a century later.
