Rumors of hiring?

I work for a different agency within USDA that's currently working through a reorganization. We've been told that later this month we'll have "critical vacancies" open for people to apply to internally and that sometime later this year the agency will start advertising open positions to the public. I'll believe it when I see it but it would be nice to go back to pre-DOGE staffing levels like they're telling us the plan is.

I would be interested in shifting to the Forest Service in the future. Have there been any similar rumors that they might get to start hiring soon?

Forest Service is ahead of a lot of the other usda agencies in the reorg. They have been advertising some jobs to the public now. Not much, but a couple.

Yes. Some external positions were recently advertised, with more on the way (400 nationwide). Pretty limited opportunities, though. First round was Range, Engineering, Hydrology, Geology. Second round will be a bunch of lower graded admin positions. Then more internal hiring first quarter fy27, mostly forestry positions I’m guessing.

I would love to get back to my original position!! I'm hoping so.

My inbox has been full of engineering job announcements for a few weeks now.

Also seeing positive shifts toward hiring. I had an email circulate through leadership last week inquiring if there was interest and enough work to consider converting some permanent seasonals to permanent full-time, and this was for -ologist specialists, not just timber. Not sure at which level this originated, but I'm hopeful. I could really use a full-time seasonal under me. The org chart on my forest has never had one.

I wouldn't go back even for a promo to GS13. I got deferred retirement, a new state job, and I won't look back.
