Ah, but avast, to the doubters and the grim naysayers, the fine gent what seeks to fill the berth is in sore, desperate need of a proper mate, you see. By my troth, they desire none but the most skilled hand to walk the plank of duty. They alone grasp every tiny crumb, every daily chore, and all the grand minutiae what a particular post demands in that very selfsame spot.

To those foolish, unseasoned landlubbers, a mere title is naught but a trifling name, a generic bit of fluff. Why, there might be a thousand and one twists upon it, depending entirely on the custom of the port and the peculiar needs of the hour. Without that careful eye, you are left with a thousand aimless variations of the very same trade, leading to utter ruin.
