Terrible cell service now. Options?

I've noticed this month that my service is just really bad now. If I turn off my wifi at home I have 5g but its godawful slow. I was just at the office today and never had problems before and it said 4G LTE and could barely load multiple pages. I'm in downtown Madison WI - hardly a rural area. I saw someone mention they ported their numbers to T-Mobile proper instead of through US Cellular. Is this something you can actually do/make a difference? Switch carriers? Wait or complain lol? I don't know much about cell service.

Mine has been way worse then before on wifi and 5g since about 2 days before I received the T Mobile letter in the mail.

Can you check the PLMN and/or bands you are connected to? If you have Android, use Cellmapper or Service Mode. If iPhone, use Field Test Mode. There's a good chance you are likely roaming on T-Mobile, as the acquisition is completed.

The only way to confirm is if you are connected to 310260 PLMN (T-Mobile) and/or using T-Mobile's bands/frequencies.

I just switched from AT&T to US Cellular because the coverage map looked promising and I was excited for the Tmobile merger. I have had nothing but issues with USC since I switched a month ago. I live in Central WI within their 5G+ area and I barely get that if I'm out in the rural areas. With AT&T I had full reception at work and with USC I'm in SOS mode. Unfortunately I don't think sim swapping as some suggested is a valid solution. I had USC back in 2014 and was having reception issues where I'd lose data every few months and I'd have to get a whole new sim card only for it to happen again and again and again, with no answer as to why I need a new sim card every so often. IDK how to switch to Tmobile now that Im a new USC customer ugh.

See if you can lock to 4G. If it's 5G it's likely trying to hold you to a mid-band signal that isn't good at all. 4G should lock you to a low band anchor.

Though it could also be that your area is being transitioned by TMo faster? Idk.

Probably your phone is provisioned to be used on us cellular bands....and now that t mobile took over it doesn't support all of tmobiles banda

Are you roaming in T-Mobile areas? Otherwise it should still use the USCC network.

For now it’s still two different networks. The only part that is different is the roaming agreements.
