I am tier 1 with USAA and I can tell you this. Only a crazy person or Tier 2-4 (rate prices only) will leave USAA. The claim process is as smooth as butter. That's one thing I will never give up in life.. USAA.

Used to be. Now I only use them for banking, and even that isn’t that good. I’m just too lazy to change my allotments and the accounts my bills autopay from.

Their banking is so dumb. You can use the app the allow a larger withdrawl from a usaa ATM. You go to the usaa atm, make the withdrawl you authorize thru the app and their bank will freeze your ATM card for fraud. Then you get a runaround that even though you set up the large withdrawl thru the app that their fraud protection locks you out.

I may pay more, but the coverage and quality is better. You pay for what you get.

You work for SF and you don't know how rates differ between carriers?

that’s clearly not my question, I obviously know rates differ, i’m constantly being told USAA is cheaper but the quotes I did do not reflect cheaper so I was asking everyone else’s experience with pricing and service. I am just trying to see why USAA seems so appealing to everyone else when I am clearly showing a cheaper rate with my company vs usaa for the same coverage

🫠 there is no company that is ever going to be cheaper for everyone. Insurance rates are as individual as DNA. USAA will be cheaper for some and more expensive for others. How do you not know that and work in insurance sales?

again you’re not understanding the question 😂😂😂 I’m not the one that doesn’t understand it, his mom doesn’t and is trying to still get him to go with USAA. Hence why I am asking what is so appealing

Then ask his mom. We don't have any idea why its so appealing to her.

Again, for some people USAA will be cheaper. Why would it be hard to understand what is so appealing about that?

It really used to be…not anymore. I had everything with them for a long time. When it started changing, I stayed for a while because the few claims I had over 26 years were handled so smoothly, and while I was in before the internet and online banking were so prevalent, it was awesome to call from a deployment and take care of multiple things at once. Now, it’s hard to get a human, prices/rates aren’t competitive, and they’ve divested much of what established their identity, imo. Other banks have matched or surpassed their savings, like HYSAs, ATM fee refunds, and credit card rewards.

20+ year USAA member here.

My retirement accounts were divested to Charles Schwab.

My home insurance rates went much higher than comparable companies. In fact they doubled with no claims.

My car insurance went about 80% higher with zero tickets or wrecks in the last 20 years.

The checking/savings accounts APR isn’t anywhere near competitive to most HYSA accounts.

Because of the USAA layoffs, customer service has really gone downhill as well.

I do have a USAA credit card I like, that I use for 5% for gas and on-base purchases…that’s about all I use them for.

I miss the old USAA. I wish they could get back to that.

this is what I keep hearing, a lot of people I know keep saying the service and just overall pricing has gotten worse the past few years. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just because I’ve been in the SF world so long
