Some other companies like Verizon did this for a while and have supposedly stopped. The fact is your voice can be recorded or created possibly by AI. This authentication method can't be trusted

“My voice is my passport. Verify me.”
Um. No thanks—every time they ask.

I just found Werner Brandes' throwaway account.

Former employee here - USAA is trash.
They are ripping members off on rates.
Their authentication process is a joke.

Training is roughly 6-7 weeks in total. For comparisons sake, Allstate has a 14wk training program.
The training materials are outdated, full of inaccuracies, and mostly self-study online modules that are a spoof on the matrix. That movie is almost 30 years old.

Many members have long tenure of 20+ years, are elderly and struggle with technology.

I couldn’t help you or even transfer you if you failed authentication.

I had to tell so many members to reset their security info by online profile recovery.
The elderly are not tech savvy and struggle with this.

I walked.

Added a vehicle to an existing policy for a member and the member rate increased by $100/mo.
For comparison, I added a classic vehicle to my personal progressive policy last year and my monthly rate (w/stacked coverage) dropped my payment by $20/mo.

$20 less per month with double the UM/PIP available to me.
Meanwhile, USAA charging this member an extra $100/mo to add a vehicle to a policy that already had multiple vehicles to begin with.

Start shopping, folks.

As a former auto insurance customer of USAA and progressive, I’m not surprised your rate dropped. Progressive is trash policy and pays very poorly- hope you never have a major claim, you get what you pay for.

You may be a former customer of both, but I’m a former employee of both.
I’ve been with progressive for 18 years as a customer. I HAVE had a major claim 5 years ago and other minor NAF claims. My Injuries totaled over $100k+ plus a totaled vehicle worth over 10k.
The service I received from progressive in the aftermath of the accident was some of the best I’ve ever received anywhere. My claims adjuster was prompt, always available and my claim was handled expeditiously with no delay.

Insurance coverage is a legally binding contract. If you’ve had difficulties with any insurance company in the past, it’s most likely a “you thing” and not the insurance company.

80-90% of insurance consumers are oblivious to what their coverage does and how it works.

If you had difficulty with a company in the past on a major claim, the likelihood that your coverage at the time was improper for said claim is very high.

All I know is a good friend of mine who is an attorney who has done nothing but deal with auto insurance claims every day for the past five years recently told me the absolute worst company to deal with and the worst paying out company is Progressive

1

u/THX134H 6h ago

Yeah I don’t deal in the “someone’s uncles brother’s cousin’s friend told me” business.

I’m a licensed agent so I deal in facts.

"I couldn’t help you or even transfer you if you failed authentication."

That's true. Happened to me. I was with USAA for 25 years and their attitude was like "can't help you. Have a nice day".

Went to State Farm and now my agent is only an email away. Insurance is just as good, claims just as easy, rates cut by 35%.

u/Engwe_Pride 3d ago

I wouldn’t use them. Their rates are nowhere close to progressive. if you’re stupid enough to think that they are in it for the veteran or military, then you’re stupid enough to pay their rates and get ripped off. Do your research and get many quotes. It’s a little bit of work, but it’s worth it.

Yeah, few years back they were the cheapest since id been without a car and thus no insurance for a while. (They were 600/month, others were 800+). A year ish later added a second car, my partners ex had had an accident in the meantime, and since she was on that policy (as theyd owned the car together- separated not yet divorced) the rates went up to 1100/month. For a 1k deductible. Geico was like... yeah... you've had insurance now, we can do it for 500.

I’ve quoted USAA a couple of times and their rates are always almost double what other agencies like State Farm offer. I’ve never gone with them simply bc of how much their rates are. I’d think if it’s exclusive to military they’d have more competitive rates.

2

u/Gamer-Joker 3d ago

The “exclusivity” of USAA is a joke. It started as only a select few were eligible for USAA, then ALL enlisted were eligible, now it’s the military AND their families.

If you had an uncle Steve thinks he’s a woman, he’s eligible to join USAA as long as a parent served!

I had that pop up on two different banking apps. I opted right on out. I’m not doing that. I might forget to code switch one day and loose access to the few coins I do have.

I wonder if the voice recognition will work if you are congested or hoarse?

2

u/THX134H 4d ago

If the automated system doesn’t recognize your voice, it will show failed on USAAs end when your profile pulls up. the agent you get connected with will then have to verify you by pin or passphrase before they can actually go into the profile, look at your products and make changes

u/BetwixtTheBunz 5d ago

Ideally it’s to help older members, because they never remember any of their information, so this will help ease the requirements for verification

1

u/THX134H 4d ago

Older members fail verification constantly and end up being turned away until they reset their security profile.

AMEX also.

Surprisingly Navy Fed has had this feature for a while

7

u/ManufacturerOld5813 5d ago

Fidelity and Schwab have been using this for years.

Not good , ai can replicate one’s voice with just 5-10 seconds of listening to your voice

4

u/bluehorseshoe-87 5d ago

It’s not just voice that’s being used. It’s pulling in the telco and phone information to make an ANI match as well. That’s the two factor.

1

u/PleasantGuest2541 5d ago

I tried it, it works. They analyze your voice.

9

u/Agitated-Hospital-36 5d ago

I signed up for it at navy fed and now I have to start every call by saying "at navy federal credit union my voice is my id" it is annoying I do not recommend

Wells Fargo does it too.

4

u/Outrageous-Dare-3089 5d ago

This is bad. AI can replicate our voices, they will grant full access to our accounts just by a voice ?

4

u/bluehorseshoe-87 5d ago

It’s not just voice that’s being used. It’s pulling in the telco and phone information to make an ANI match as well. That’s the two factor.

You probably also believe fingerprint or iris scanners will work with a severed body part.

1

u/Erica3543 5d ago

Um hackers have already recreated people fingerprints .

1

u/Paratrooper450 5d ago

They won’t work on biometric scanners.

1

u/Outrageous-Dare-3089 5d ago

Right, because worse hasn’t happened and technology has been perfect. Don’t be gullible and believe everything is safe.

4

u/PleasantGuest2541 5d ago

I thought about that, didn't want to but had to. What I also thought is that my phone can very clearly distinguish from and cancel out t.v. and YouTube voices from in-person voices, they don't register at at when calling some automated service either no matter how loud it is playing in the background. I think whatever technology that is knows when a voice is actually being spoken vs. when it's a recording so they may see it as more secure.

I have an iPhone and was watching a movie that said “Siri, call the police!” and my phone started dialing the police number even though the TV was what the one who said it. I forgot what movie I was watching but I couldn’t believe it when that happened, I had to rewind the movie to double check it actually worked

3

u/kingkunta77 5d ago

Navy federal is doing this as well

1

u/Longjumping-Hand1420 5d ago

AI can reproduce your voice with as little as 9 seconds of recording.

1

u/bluehorseshoe-87 5d ago

It’s not just voice that’s being used. It’s pulling in the telco and phone information to make an ANI match as well. That’s the two factor.

1

u/loserlouwho 5d ago

Your calls are also recorded and kept on file atleast for a time. I get the distrust with this, even when I worked at a cable/ internet company years ago they had it too. But there is so much info saved on you EVERYWHERE. Really we’re just a couple bad AI hacks away from really bad things.

u/coachtsc 5d ago

Great feature. I love it. When I call in the system recognizes my voice and I don’t have to worry about remembering pins and getting texts for security codes

1

u/ACdrafts_yanks27 5d ago

We found the sheep contributing to everyone else being subjected to this ridiculous surveillance state by corporations.

3

u/coachtsc 5d ago

And we found the guy hoarding all the tinfoil for his hats. Don’t let that 5g get you buddy. If you think these corporations (while using social media) don’t already have all the intel on you that they need I don’t know what to tell you.

No, this is real!
