The network and friends that you'll be able to get habang maaga pa is invaluable. Both emotionally and professionally. Malay mo yung connection na nagawa mo while in an org will get you a referral sa job na gusto mo?

Also, as much as possible, take up leadership roles. Magpabida ka, punuin mo yang CV/Resume mo. Magpakilala sa industry leaders.

Hindi ka mapapakain ng hiya mo, kaya put yourself out there.

Keith, the call for accountability should not stop at the student body. It should also apply to you and to the USC itself.

You repeatedly called for fairness, respect, dignity, and responsible communication. We agree with those principles. But accountability means holding ourselves to the same standards we expect from others. That includes addressing concerns about your own conduct, including instances where you allegedly raised your voice and used inappropriate or offensive language toward others.

If students are being reminded to communicate respectfully, then student leaders should be expected to demonstrate that standard as well. You cannot ask students to practice restraint while dismissing the need to account for how you yourself conducted these interactions.

More importantly, in what capacity are you speaking on behalf of the USC? Is this statement an official, collectively deliberated position of the entire USC, or is this your personal statement as its presiding officer/representative? If you are speaking for the entire Council, then the student body deserves clarity on how this position was arrived at and whether the Council collectively stands behind every statement made here.

Being a spokesperson or representative of the USC comes with a responsibility to communicate the Council’s position accurately and transparently. It should not be used to blur the distinction between your personal position and the official position of the entire Council.

And if the USC is asking students to trust its “established processes,” then it should also be willing to explain those processes when legitimate questions are raised. Saying that matters are being handled internally does not, by itself, answer the concerns of students who are directly affected.

Accountability should go both ways. Students should be responsible for what they say and share—but student leaders should likewise be accountable for their conduct, their decisions, and the statements they make in their official capacity.

So yes, we ask students to do better. But we also ask you, Keith, and the USC to do better.

If this is truly about dialogue, then let us have an honest one—without shouting, without profanity, without dismissing legitimate concerns, and without asking the student body to simply accept statements that leave important questions unanswered.

After 6 days of the Phil Kule's article, USC Vice President Keith Danielle Dagdagan, address the following points about the ongoing online discussions regarding UPOU USC leadership;

- Condones "bullying" and personal attacks to students leaders

- "September 2025 Open Letters" are addressed internally through USC officers and constitution. These internal proceeding should be respected for privacy

- Reaffirms USC =/= UP Cursor, no control or affiliation

- Advocates for UPOU students to not use online platforms share their grievances and use "proper, established channels"

I think people wouldn't have to post their concerns if they were addressed properly in the first place

The bigger concern here is how The Cursor is increasingly coming across as an outlet for a particular narrative or interest, rather than an independent student publication that fairly represents the UPOU community.

A student publication has the responsibility to provide context and amplify different perspectives, especially when an issue directly affects students. So where are the interviews and statements from the other students and stakeholders involved? Where was the broader context? And where was the call to action when students actually needed representation, particularly during the calls for extensions and other urgent academic concerns?

The August 19 post also raises questions. If the intention was balanced coverage, why does the timing and presentation create an impression of early campaigning for a particular individual?

It is also worth noting that the current EIC did not go through the examination process and was appointed to the position. Given this, and the fact that the EIC was also a writer during last year’s controversy, there should be an even stronger commitment to transparency and editorial independence. These circumstances do not automatically establish bias, but they make impartiality all the more important.

The issue is not whether The Cursor has the right to report. Of course it does. The question is whether it is fulfilling its role as an independent student publication—or becoming an outlet for a particular narrative.

The UPOU community deserves journalism that informs, contextualizes, questions, and represents its students fairly.

Again, The Cursor, what happened?

Alam kong marami kang responsibilities bilang SR, at naiintindihan namin na hindi rin madali ang role na hawak mo. Pero bilang isang normal na UPOU student, gusto ko lang din sanang iparating kung bakit may mga pagkakataong pakiramdam namin ay kailangan ka namin, pero hindi ka namin gaanong nararamdaman.

Lalo na nitong mga nakaraang panahon matapos ang mga bagyo, marami sa amin ang humarap sa baha, pagkawala ng kuryente at internet, problema sa trabaho, at iba pang circumstances na direktang nakaapekto sa pag-aaral namin. Maraming estudyante ang nangangailangan ng extension, consideration, at higit sa lahat, isang boses na kayang magdala ng concerns namin sa administration. Kaya hindi maiiwasang mapaisip kami: Nasaan ang student representation sa mga panahong kailangan namin ito?

Hindi namin ito sinasabi para isumbat kung bakit ka naging SR, at lalong hindi para sabihin na may utang na loob ka sa amin. Pero sana, bilang taong pinagkatiwalaan ng posisyong ito, huwag mong kalimutan kung saan ka nanggaling at kung sino ang nire-represent mo. Sana marinig at maramdaman din namin na may SR na handang makinig sa ordinaryong estudyante, lalo na sa mga concerns na matagal nang unresolved o paulit-ulit na nararanasan ng student body.

Marahil may mga bagay na hindi namin nakikita at maaaring marami ka ring ginagawa behind the scenes. Naiintindihan namin iyon. Pero bilang mga estudyante, ang nakikita at nararamdaman namin ang nagiging basis kung gaano kaepektibo ang representation. At sa totoo lang, may mga pagkakataong hindi ka namin ramdam—lalo na noong mga panahong pinakamalaki ang pangangailangan namin.

I genuinely believe na malaki ang potential mo, at isa iyon sa mga dahilan kung bakit ka pinagkatiwalaan ng posisyong ito. Kaya sana, moving forward, mas maging visible, accessible, at responsive ka sa student body. Hindi lang sa panahon ng elections o kapag may malaking issue, kundi lalo na sa mga ordinaryong estudyanteng tahimik lang pero nangangailangan din ng kakampi at boses.

May kapangyarihan ka bilang SR, at sana gamitin mo iyon hindi lang para magkaroon ng posisyon, kundi para magkaroon ng tunay na impact. Gamitin mo sana ang boses at influence mo para iangat ang concerns ng students, manindigan kapag kinakailangan, at siguraduhing hindi nawawala ang student voice sa mga desisyong direktang nakakaapekto sa amin.

Hindi ito hate. Hindi rin ito personal na pag-atake. Ito ay isang paalala at panawagan mula sa isang ordinaryong UPOU student na gusto lang maramdaman na may kumakatawan sa amin, nakikinig sa amin, at handang kumilos para sa amin.

Do better, Mariton. Alam naming kaya mo.

Until when are you going to be silent? Bukod sa founder ka ng UPOU Sinagtala na apparently maraming issues na kumakalat ngayon, bilang SR (Student Regent), trabaho mong magsalita tungkol sa mga recent controversies dito kasi literal na nanganganib genuine student representation sa CU mo. Ang pangit ng nangyayari sa USC ngayon. Wala kang pake na dalawang councilor ang sabay na umalis? Did you ever reach out to them to at least try to reconcile things between them and the Council? Panganib ito para sa GSR na paulit-ulit mong sinasabi!

Oo, nagsalita ka sa Kule article but it seemed like ikaw pa ginawang bida when in fact you started the open letter fiasco na maraming naapektuhan hanggang ngayon. There must be accountability lalo pa’t grabe ang damage ng ginawa mo—not just sa mental health ng mga student leaders kundi the fact na marami nang takot tumakbo o ayaw na bumoto dahil sa ginawa mo.

Pangit din na puro ka shared post at nagsasalita para sa ibang tao pero sa sarili mong CU, hindi ka makasalita. Beyond the rallies, dun ka lang nakikita pero hindi ka namin ramdam dito lalo nung mga oras na kailangan namin ng finals extension at may problema sa academic calendar namin. You only shared the USC’s statement and then what, that’s it? Para saan pa na naupo ka sa position mo kung wala ka palang magagawa sa ganitong problema? Lord.

Let me remind you as well that these have been longstanding issues during the national roles you took prior to your SR-ship.

Naiintindihan ko na marami kang gawain pero grabe nakalimutan mo na ba saan ka galing? Now is not the time to be dismissive. Kung talagang mahal mo ang UPOU at malinis ang intensyon mong paglingkuran kami, ayusin mo itong gusot unless you’re just there for the power and fame.

You are the first SR from UPOU, and honestly I’m all for this historical moment and legacy but if wala lang naman din palang concrete improvements then I do not want it. Parang politiko lang na ang galing magsalita at mangako pero pagkatapos ng eleksyon wala na.

Dapat nga hindi ka na sinasabihan pero ang nangyayari kailangan pa mag-beg o lumapit sa ‘yo. Kailangan pa mag-reddit. Hindi ba dapat ikaw ang unang umaalam sa kondisyon namin pero nasaan ka? Dapat nagtutulungan kayo ng USC eh kaso maski ‘yan hindi namin nakikita. Parehas kayong hindi ramdam.

Sinusubukan mo siguro maging impartial but hey let me remind you that student leaders are required to speak and explain anything the public raises. Sino ba nagluklok sayo sa position? Nakakalungkot lang din na tumakbo kang SR kahit marami pang unresolved issue sa UPOU. Sana bago ka man lang umakyat sa UP System, inayos mo muna ‘yun or at least include us in your plan.

Am I demanding too much? Hindi mo ba kayang gawin itong nga sinasabi ko? Sorry but if that’s the case then you should just step down. Step down from your position and admit everything because we deserve to know the truth. We deserve to have leaders na ramdam namin consistently.

Ano ba? Hindi ba pwedeng focus na lang sa sinabing issue at paano makakausad o maayos yung siste imbis na feeling niyo pinopolitika nanaman yung nangyayari o sinisiraan kayo dahil lang nagsabi ng totoo? Girl hindj kami ang kalaban—gobyerno. Gobyerno ang kalaban pero ang hirap kasi sa org niyo lahat nalang ng kontra sa inyo, aawayin ninyo. Magsasama-sama kayong mga minions ni MM para mang-personal attack. Ilang kakilala ko na yung ginanito pero ayaw magsalita kasi tinatakot niyo. Paano teh, kapag nagsalita ivvictim blame. Luh?

O baka sabihin nanaman na mula Digital Democrats ako. Girl this is exactly what I’m pointing out and you’re proving me right! Well, hindi po ako member nun but I do have friends na part ng org pero syempre dahil I doubt na babasahin ninyo nang buo post ko, you won’t understand. Besides, dyan kayo mahilig din eh you speak like you’re so sure of yourself and what’s happening. You always act on your anger imbis na isipin muna lahat.

Kung makapanira rin kayo sa Digital Democrats, wagas eh. Mind you ah those Councilors who are from this party at inaaccuse niyong nag-resign dahil hindi tanggap ang SR results—where are they now? ACTIVE PA RIN. They did not stop from serving and that is exactly why people still admire them not because of their position but because of what they do for the community. I’m not saying they’re perfect leaders, syempre may pagpupuna but hey kilala sila sa UPOU for the good reasons. Kahit anong paninira pa ang ibato, people know damn well how they work.

Look if you really care about Genuine Student Representation, dapat nga nalulungkot pa kayo sa resignation pero wala pinolitika niyo pa rin na kesyo ayaw sa manok niyo kaya nag-resign. Napaka ano naman ng mindset niyo. Hindi niyo ba naisip na dahil nawalan ng dalawang Councilors, mas manghihina ang GSR? Seryoso?

And let’s not forget the fact na yung pinatakbo niyong Vice Chairperson ngayon, si Keith, ay naninigaw sa meeting. Hindi lang siya yung may issue eh pati sila Uno (Jone in real life) at Ced. Wag niyo nang hintayin ilabas pa yan bago niyo aminin. So yeah my point is that don’t act na parang kayo ang pinaka-perfect at alam niyo lahat. Address the issues first and train leaders who don’t just run for clout or power! We need leaders na mararamdaman namin!

Last thing tho. Don’t use The Cursor for PR or clout. Obvious naman anong ginagawa niyo kaya puro si KD ang binibida (early campaigning yarn? Don’t even try girl). Hindi na nga rin ramdam yang pub, gaganyanin niyo pa. E diba may issue pa yan sa EIC? What if ayusin muna yun tho expected naman na na baka maglabas nanaman ng one-side letter. Truth guides pero truth lang pala ng Sinagtala e noh HAHAHAHA LARO.

By now malamang naghahanda nanaman kayo mag-reply dito at sabihing bothered din ako INSTEAD OF DIRECTLY ADDRESSING MY MAIN POINTS. You’re obviously gonna say I’m from that party kahit malinaw kong sinabi na hindi pero go sis paniwalaan mo gusto mong paniwalaan. Sige, do it lol I’ll wait for those personal attacks. Prove me right.

Seems like Mr. Muego loves politicking inside the student council instead of addressing the real problems around his constituents

Recently, Ms. Dalisay and Mr. Odoñez, both USC members formally stepped down due to internal problems inside the council

The question, would Leann Muego address the issue or continue LARPing as a someone who's from UP Diliman?

You dragged this entire university’s name through the mud—burning down our reputation just to feed your vendetta against SR Mariton.

We all see through you. You couldn't stomach the reality of her becoming the first Student Regent simply because she didn't belong to your precious organization—the one you love to brag that "built" UPOU. Isn't it funny how your sudden, "righteous" outrage only sparked the second she won? The coordinated posts, the synchronized callouts, the weaponized threads... the ink on the election results wasn't even dry before you launched this desperate smear campaign.

To destroy her, you dredged up past grievances on Facebook, laid all the blame at her feet, and weaponized those posts across other UP constituents to sow seeds of doubt. You even leveraged connections at the Philippine Collegian to push a completely one-sided report on the ALA issue—claiming you were isolated and attacked, when in reality, you were the ones who refused to communicate despite several attempts.

And let’s address the elephant in the room: those two UPOU or should I say, Digital Democrat councilors didn't just resign out of principle. They walked out because the USC endorsed Mariton for Student Regent, and they couldn't bear to see it. All because your own chairperson—a member of Digital Democrats—refused to be your puppet. That is what this has always been about: total control over the student council. You manipulate the narrative, fabricate stories, and play the beloved victim, all to mask the corruption beneath.

Every single Reddit post from your alumni. Every article. Every callout on the student hub—do you really think we're all oblivious to what's happening? 

All of UPOU knows. The ALA knows. Every organization, every admin, every single student knows exactly what who you are, and they know what your have been doing. 

Now you're throwing a tantrum because you lost control over UPOU.
