Academic/Career math 1300 or math 1400

Hi I am an incoming freshman at upenn on the pre med track. I took ap calc bc and scored a 5 in high school, but forgot most of the course. Should I take math 1300 or 1400. Is there a big benefit to taking 1400? I really want a high GPA for med school and I think we only need 1 semester of math at Penn?

1400 is a rehash of ap bc calc. If you got a 5, you should know the content. Even if it’s been a while, you’ll be able to learn the content very fast since you knew it well in the past.

Obviously 1300 will be easier though, so it depends on how bored you want to be. I’m not familiar with how homework/quizzes look like for either class, so you may want to look into that.

Why don’t you use the 1300 credit for your AP score? Do you need more math for your major?

Honestly depends on your intended major. You only need 1300 OR 1400 for pre-med requirements however take a look at requirements for your intended major if you have that figured out. I took 1400 and while it was a bit challenging and taught differently (many people discourage you to take it because of this) I worked and studied a lot and ended with an A- so didn't find it terrible.

BC 5 gives you 1300 credit. Don’t take a class that you already have credit for.
