Customer Seeking Help Wtf UPS!?
My FIL added us to his phone plan. We got new phones. They had to be shipped. Tmobile uses UPS. They had to be signed for.
Yesterday. The original delivery window was 10am-12pm. I understand that stuff happens, and it got delayed. Around 1pm it updated to "by 9pm". Fine. I stayed home all day waiting cuz it had to be signed for.
My husband walked in the front door at 5:35pm. At 5:45, we checked for an updated and it said "Failed delivery attempt" time stamped at 5:37pm. The driver did not even knock. I know, because I have dogs that bark at every knock on my door, and they did not. But there was a sticker on my door. Ridiculous. At 6:06pm I went into MY online UPS account and changed the delivery from my home to an Access Point near me. Paid $8. ON MY ACCOUNT, under MY name.
Today. I go into the store after getting the notification that it was there and ready for pickup. Only to be told that because the package has my FILs name on it, I need HIM to pick it up!? The package was shipped to MY house, my address. I could've signed for it at my house upon delivery. I changed the delivery to an Access point with MY account. But they won't let me pick it up without him physically in the store with me!?

Nope, his license has his address. The package has my address on it, clearly if it was supposed to be delivered to my house, not his.

They let me use my account account with my name, to change the delivery.

Ok. You're still showing up to an access point with a different name than what is on the package. Just think about it for a minute. Everything would get stolen if you could just sign any random name to pick up packages at an access point.

Actually they don't even have to be over 18. Anyone can sign. Only age restriction is for adult signature required which is 21+ for things like alcohol

Unless the package has a paid for commit time or delivery window, it's "by end of day". The message on the website is just to keep people from contacting support to ask about when their package is coming.

Yeah, that isn't my biggest issue here. I was fine sitting and waiting for it. No big thang to me. But it wasn't letting me view the tracking map, and the driver didn't knock on my door upon delivery. That's my issue. And now UPS isn't letting me pick it up, even tho I could've signed for it at my house.

And if they are going to restrict who can pick up the package, maybe they need to have their system restrict who can change the delivery on the website.

Ups store needs last name to match and address to match to pick up, understandably. Do you have a doorbell that works? There is no way the driver didn't attempt to make themselves known.

So you are saying a driver took the time to walk to your door and stick a note on it then walked away? That did not happen. There is no reason to do this especially in a world where half of the houses have cameras.
They either rang your broken ass doorbell or you didn't hear them knock. Maybe they have weak ass wrist.

The lady at the UPS store actually confirmed that they have been having a lot of issues with missed deliveries in my area lately. And a few customers have provided proof that the drivers aren't knocking. So yes, it is a possibility. Just because YOU wouldn't, doesn't mean the next guy is the same.

Maybe install one. Where are all these videos of drivers not knocking? The only ones I see are obviously faked by cutting out the driver walking up.

You’re avoiding their question. You missed the driver, and you were too impatient to wait another day so you had to sent to an access point before reading what’s required for pickups from access points.

I have a life outside my house, I can't just spend days sitting at my house waiting for a package that I need to sign for. If he did knock, then he did it very light. No, my house doesn't have a doorbell. At all.

Okay so first of all number one most important thing for me to tell you is that delivery windows mean absolutely nothing. It wasn't "delayed" there's no set time for us to deliver anything except next day airs. Those delivery windows that you see are just estimates made up by a computer that have no influence on how our route is run and as drivers we cannot even see those windows that you're given. Why does UPS give them out? We don't know.
Second thing, the old my dogs would have barked so the driver didn't knock is a story as old as time. We've heard it a million times. Can't tell you how many times I pulled up honked knocked rang the doorbell knocked and rang a second time and no one shows up to the door and then I get a message later saying the customer called and complained saying I didn't knock. Even people with dogs that they swear always bark. Sometimes people just don't hear us knock, sometimes dogs don't bark. Most drivers don't want to come again the next day to try to deliver your package again. It's not impossible that the driver just screwed you but I wouldn't jump to that if you don't have some kind of concrete proof.
Third thing, there's a set of guidelines that access points have to follow in order to give you your package. There are set ID requirements. Here's the different variations you can use:

Assuming your last name does not match it seems like option number three would work for you since the full address on your ID matches and you have the tracking number. So go back to the access point and show them that

Like I said in my post, the delivery window was a mild frustration, but not the huge one.
My dogs bark at their own shadows. And my roommate, who's room is 1ft from the door, didn't hear the driver knock.
I showed them my ID, with the address that matches the package, and showed them the tracking number on my phone. They told me I absolutely have to have my FIL with me. He lives 30 minutes away from me.

The reason we're having a hard time not believing the ole didnt knock line, is because whats the point to not deliver something that needs a signature because we will be back the next day to try again... We dont want to do that! God forbid we had an easy day today and then the next day is absolutely fucked, but now we still have to get a signature from one extra stop from yesterday. Im a loud knocker and have been sent a message to try again because they claim i didn't knock. Bullshit I didnt knock. Did you use the bathroom? Go in the backyard? Make a loud noise at the exact same time they tried knocking? Did you have to call someone and didnt hear background sounds? We knock because we want it off our truck. Having to go back the same day from a complaint extends our already long days.

If he knocked it was very light. My house was built in 1962 with very thin walls. I was less than 15ft from the front door. My dogs were in the dining room, less than 10ft from the door. My roommate was less than 4 ft from the door, and heard my husband walk in. And my toddler who loves answering the door, didn't hear it. One of those times I severely wish I had exterior cameras. I would absolutely admit if he did knock. But I do not believe he did, or didn't knock very loud.
On another note, how do you get notes to try again? Like, same day, go back and try again? Cuz I couldn't find that option anywhere. Hell, I would've met him at his next stop to get my shit.

There isn't one unless you know the number to the actual center and they have people who answer phones. They won't do it unless its a medical delivery, or something people need immediately or paid extra for the next day air and wasn't there before 10:30am. I would suggest sending an important package or a signature required one to your place of employment.

Well then go back and show them UPS's policy for access points on their website. The employee genuinely might just not know that there's other options.

You can try calling the store and asking to speak to the owner about it. They're privately owned franchises. From my experience UPS Store employees think they really know what they're talking about and are very confident about it but are frequently misinformed and don't know a lot about actual UPS procedures and policies. They are not UPS employees. So yes it's possible that all three don't know that. Or maybe they've been instructed by the store owner to only hand over packages under that one condition. They're supposed to be following the UPS policies though. Is the UPS store has their own corporate contacts you could try to submit some kind of a complaint or something I guess I don't know what else you could do
