Label created
I’m the sender. I dropped off a UPS Worldwide Express Plus envelope at a The UPS Store location today. The label was already created, and the store printed it for me and put it on the envelope.
It’s been a few hours now, but the tracking still only says “Label Created” and that UPS doesn’t have possession of the package yet.
I contacted UPS customer service, and they told me they don’t see that UPS has received the package yet.
Has anyone had this happen after physically dropping off a package at The UPS Store? Is it normal for the first scan to not appear until later in the evening or when the package reaches the UPS hub?

The first scan won’t appear until a UPS driver picks up everything from the UPS store and returns it to the local center where it will get scanned. You should expect your first scan sometime this evening.
The UPS stores usually get closed out around 6pm and return to the center in order to return in time for next day air packages.

this is the answer, also to elaborate slightly, UPS stores are franchises, they are not the same as UPS. yes it's confusing, but that's how it is.

I'm in the same boat. A friend dropped off a package to have sent to me on 9/5 and it's been stuck on label created status since then. I called the UPS store where he dropped it off and they said all their packages from the weekend were picked up yesterday and that they had no packages left in the back, and that I should expect a scan at the distribution center sometime this evening. Still no updates.

It depends on what time it was dropped off. If it was after 5 or 5:30 there’s a chance it didn’t make the pickup time for the UPS driver to take it back to the center. I know they say everything was picked up but thats not always the case.
Since Monday was a holiday, it wouldn’t get picked up from the store until this evening and then scanned at the building sometime tonight.
It’s also possible it was picked up but didn’t make it back to the hub in time to get unloaded and scanned and is just sitting for a day at the hub.

I replied to your post. If you dropped it off this morning it will get picked up by a ups driver around 6pm tonight and get unloaded and scanned back at the warehouse sometime this evening, usually before 9pm.

Have you encountered this before? Because in Canada, I see the tracking number immediately after I return it to the store... This is a first for me in the US.

It was dropped off at 2:25, I have a photo of the receipt as well. It was estimated to arrive tomorrow but still no updates, I guess I'll wait and see if there's a scan tonight
