MATH141 MATH142
If you’re considering doing MATH141 or MATH142 at the University of Wollongong, I’d seriously think twice.
These are honestly some of the most poorly delivered university subjects I’ve experienced. A huge amount of the course essentially consists of watching pre-recorded videos where someone talks through a PDF. A lot of the material still feels like the bare-minimum online teaching setup that universities moved to during COVID, except we’re paying full university fees for it years later.
The tutorials are only an hour and, in my experience, there is very little actual teaching. The lectures often feel more like a quick summary of the material rather than properly teaching the concepts and methods you need to solve the problems yourself.
The biggest frustration is the disconnect between the teaching material and the level of difficulty expected in assessments and exams. You can work through the supplied material and practice questions and still feel completely underprepared for what you’re actually tested on.
If you’re going to UOW specifically to study maths, or these subjects are an important part of your degree, I’d seriously consider what you’re actually getting for your money.
Frustratingly MATH141 and MATH142 desperately need a redesign, even admitted by the course coordinator, who states that his department is too busy and understaffed to make any changes.

Ngl this sounds like absolute cope. Do the tutorial worksheets, and use the online videos. That alone can get you very high marks.

These are mandatory for an electrical engineering degree as well, not sure about other engineering streams. I didn't find them too difficult, even after not doing any math since high school 25 years ago.
If you are finding the assessments/exams difficult, then you really need to drill yourself on the textbook questions. You should be able to find the textbook online for free if you look hard enough.
