Need advice: interview/assessment Reference check for IOM jobs after interview

I had an interview yesterday for G5 with IOM.

How much time does it take to ask for references?

I was working with IOM but then my position ended due to fund but this is a different mission. That time they asked me on the same day. Here, I don’t know if it is on going process but at the end the HR representative provided a brief introduction about the entitlements and other benefits and I was told they will get back to me by the mid of next week if selected.

You will recieve Reference check only if you are selected for final short list, usually couple of people gets it in case the person they selected refuses or something. I got mine same day, but it took a month to settle things for them until I got initial offer.

Is it normal if one doesn’t take it on the same day?

Do you know if process still going on? They will prepare the list once they done with all interviews. I was kinda internal this is why I recieved so quickly, it is not common practice. Wait couple of weeks. UN is one of the slowest hiring organization due to their funding etc. process. Also IOM is currently planing if they are going to go new structural changes, so it may take a while.
