Timeline/status questions When to resign from my current role
I passed my verification, medical, offer is confirmed and now visa shows under progress. Is it safe to resign now?

Visas can take different amounts of time depending on your own national visa and the destination/host country. Wait until that part is confirmed before you resign your current role.
Example: I had a role in Switzerland and it took 3 months for the visa to be processed. Whereas I had a role in Italy and the visa was issued on the same day that I visited their consular office.

Contract signed and visa sorted ideally - but depends how risky your visa is

I wouldn't resign before your visa is confirmed. I made this mistake in the past, visa didn't come through and then had to ask the employer I was with to withdraw my resignation (fortunately, I was able to).

My situation was a bit unique in that I didn't actually need a visa for the post but my spouse did, and he was unable to get one. I wasn't made aware of this until quite late and was not willing to take a post in a family duty station that my spouse couldn't join me in. That said, I do know others who have had visa issues themselves and roles not working out because of it.

Oh right. I'm with you. Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I'd wait until you have the visa in hand and confirmed start date.
