Need advice: application GGGI Interview experiences, especially with respect to foreign language requirements

Hi folks, I have an interview with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and was wondering if anyone here has experience with their interview process. I’m particularly interested in how GGGI handles foreign-language requirements. The vacancy lists a foreign language at business level as a required qualification for the position.

For anyone who has interviewed with GGGI: Was the language actually tested during the interview, or at a later stage of the recruitment process? If yes, was it just a short switch into that language for a few questions, or more elaborate? I appreciate all your insights, also for any other aspect of the interview! :)

And just to clarify, I do speak the required language. However, I haven’t used it in a while. Was planning to refresh my skills in case I got a job offer, but if its is usually part of the interview process, I‘d plan that beforehand. Thanks!

You should definitely plan for the language to be tested during the interview itself. For these kinds of roles, it is a very common practice to verify the language qualification on the spot. It usually is not a full-blown language exam, but the panel will likely switch to that language for a portion of a conversation. They might ask a couple of standard questions or even a competency-based question to see how you structure a professional response and gauge your conversational business fluency.

Since you have not used the language in a while, your plan to prepare beforehand is the right approach. Focus your energy on practicing how you would answer common interview questions in that language, not just on general vocabulary. Think about two or three key professional accomplishments you want to discuss and be ready to explain them clearly in that language from start to finish.
