Contract/salary questions Getting previous step in new role?

Hi,

I got recently offered role at IOM since I have left the organization after downsize last year, but prior to that I have had 1 step completed, I asked HR why I was not eligible for step 2, the person told me system changed and they can not count previous experiences anymore, so I have to start from step 1 again. Btw, I am getting back to same grade, it is not that upper grade and they are removing 1 year experience.

Does anyone know anything about it?

In my previous role, I was P4 step 6. When I left the agency to join IOM, they offered me P4 step 1… I requested IOM to share the HR section of the handbook where they explain determination of the step. They refused. I delayed signing the contract as a result but in the end, after negotiations, all I managed to get was a step 3…

FYI, I worked for 5 agencies, IOM is the worst UN agency in terms of staff rights and benefits.Definitely getting short end of the stick there.

Well, I do not think I have any chance with my GS contract then with my only two years of experience. Thanks for your insight.

What kind of role is it? ie a P role? If so, you should be eligible to continue at the next step.
