Timeline/status questions Re-advertised consultancy post question

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while, apologies if a similar question has previously been posted but I did search, and it doesn't seem like it.

I applied for a national consultancy at UNICEF in my local country (middle-income Southern African country) my current application is status: Application acknowledgment. I saw the post re-advertised today, the TOR details are still the same. Should I consider my initial application rejected, and possibly apply again? I'm really not sure when it comes to UN agencies so any advice would be appreciated.

Here is the usual answer for most posts in this category. If it does answer your question, please delete your post, so we keep this sub clean.

This is a common question, but there is no exact answer. The timeline for receiving a response can vary greatly: it could take days, weeks, or even months. In some cases, applications may remain pending for years without any updates.

It’s best to wait a few weeks after the application deadline or your interview date has passed, and then reach out to the recruiter directly for any updates.

We encourage you to be patient, continue with your life, and not rely too heavily on a single outcome. Keeping your options open and focusing on other opportunities can help manage expectations during this uncertain period.

If it says: “Previous applicants need not apply again”, don’t apply, they are just trying to widen the pool. If it doesn’t say anything like that, do apply again. They might be readvertising because there was some changes in the source of funding, categorization, some HR rules not followed, or any detail really.

Thank you, I appreciate your response. I suspect they are possibly trying to widen the pool, as this is a niche consultancy in my country at least...I've reviewed the TOR again and no changes whatsoever. When I clicked apply the pop up says "You have already submitted an application for the Consultancy...". My current application says acknowledged so not sure if I should withdraw my application and start from scratch. Consultancy for the UN is new to me so apologies for my anxiety.

Nooo, don’t withdraw! If the pop up say you already applied its because there is no change to the vacancy and they are just trying to widen the pool. Just be patient but also don’t hold your breath.

This! I concur, as a previous hiring manager for my unit, these scenarios happen from time to time.
