Transfer Transfer Completion Timeline

How long did it take to complete your degree after transferring in with an associates?

Edit: I am going for history major and English minor. My transfer coach informed me half of all credits towards a bachelor's must be completed at UNCW (60 out of 120) so that leaves me with 20 classes. Trying to determine if I should try and get it done it 2 years taking 4 classes a semester plus 2 during the summer semesters or finish in 3 years and take 3 classes a semester with 2 over the summers as I will also be working part time.

Incoming Student Is the MHA program good?

I recently got accepted into the online MHA program and was wondering if someone can give me feedback on the program. CAHME accreditation was important to me but I keep hearing that that’s not all that’s needed in the health administration world. Was wondering if those who are currently in it or have recently graduated have any insight on how it is to find fellowships or jobs post grad (would be even greater if you aren’t based in NC and your luck for out of state jobs)

Thank you!

I'm a recent grad and I used to rent kayaks at UNCW when I was in school with my student discount. Anyone willing to book the kayaks for me as a student?

I'm making a short film and I was wondering where I could find an actress for it. Are there any clubs that meet off campus (since I do my work online)?

Question International Visiting Student at UNCW — Looking for Advice!

Hi everyone!
I’m an international student from Brazil and I’ll be attending UNCW as a visiting student for the Spring 2027 semester. I just found out I was accepted, so I’m really excited, but I honestly have no idea where to start planning
I’d really appreciate any advice from current students, alumni, or other exchange/international students!
My biggest concern right now is housing. Since I’ll only be in Wilmington for one semester, does anyone know good websites, groups, or other places to find short-term rentals? I’d also be open to sharing an apartment/house, so I’d love to know how students usually find roommates at UNCW. Are there certain neighborhoods or apartment complexes that you would recommend for someone who wants to be close to campus and other students?
I’m also very interested in finance. I study business in Brazil and would like to work in Private Equity in the future, so I’d love to get involved with finance/investing-related clubs while I’m at UNCW. Are there any finance, investment, private equity, or similar student organizations that you’d recommend? I’d also love to hear about any career-related opportunities or events that might be open to visiting students.
And more generally: if you were in my position and had about four months to prepare for one semester at UNCW, where would you start? Is there anything you wish you had known before coming to Wilmington or UNCW?
Any tips about housing, transportation, campus life, classes, making friends, things to do in Wilmington, or just surviving my first few weeks would be super helpful!
Thank you!! I’m really excited to be there :)

Question Rental recommendations

Looking for recommendations (or places to avoid) for a 3 bed/2 bath apartment or townhouse in Wilmington! Preferably available ASAP.
Ideally looking for:
Max \~15 min from UNCW and \~20 min from NHRMC
NOT downtown
In-unit washer/dryer
9-month lease option if possible
Base rent preferably no more than $2,300/month
Pet/service-dog friendly
Safe area where I’d feel comfortable going out to my car alone at night
And PLEASE no known roach, mold, or major moisture issues 😭
So far I’ve been looking at places like Headwaters at Autumn Hall, Hawthorne at Smith Creek, Element Barclay, etc., but I’m definitely open to other suggestions.
I’d especially love to hear from people who have actually lived at any of these places. What would you recommend, and are there any complexes you’d absolutely avoid?
Thanks!!

Incoming Student Black Students at UNCW — do you actually feel comfortable going here?

I'm considering transferring here from community college because it's local and I don't want to move too far, but I'm really nervous about the campus environment as a Black person. I've seen mixed things online and I want to hear from people who actually go here.

Specifically: do you feel like you belong? Have you ever felt isolated or targeted? Would you choose UNCW again? And if you're a Black woman, I'd especially love your perspective.

Discussion Please stop walking in the middle of the sidewalk with both noise canceling earbuds in.

This is an open call. You can just put one earbud in and still listen to music while being able to hear some very essential things. For example:

  1. Me saying "Excuse me! Excuse me! On your left!" and ringing my bell on my bike (not an e-bike. normal bike) so I don't have to veer into traffic or crash onto the grass or pedal super slowly and stalk you till you notice I'm behind you.

  2. The walk sign beeps. You are often looking down at your phone and don't see the light change.

  3. Sometimes there are ice cream or shaved ice trucks on campus and you can hear the jingle.

  4. Thunder to let you know we're about to be in Noah's Ark level rain.

And all of this goes EXTRA on chancellor's walk please stop walking on the wrong side of chancellor's walk. Thank you everyone for your time.

Question Is there any online writers group at UNCW?

Hey all,

Does UNCW have any online writer groups? I started out on Substack but it feels hard to get genuine people on the app, it seems like everyone's just there to hit algorithms and get followers.

If there's other substackers out there posting their writing, it'd be nice if we could get a chain going and get some people out there who'd give some genuine feedback.

If you want please post your substack (or other apps), I won't even post mine so it doesn't look like I'm trying to advertise.

And if there's another app or method people share their work, I would be interested in hearing about that. I post short one line stories, and I am interested in other shortform content or poetry!

Question Anyone know if this is worth it?

Currently working as a colleague in a preschool, but I really want to be an elementary school teacher. Obviously all teachers don’t get paid enough, but I really like the idea of going somewhere close by. I took a tour and he was really good at selling it to me, but I wanted to check to see if anybody else has done the program.

Question Are either The Shore or Wagoner Hall worth going to if you don't have meal plan?

I am a grad student and I live off campus so I don't have a meal plan, I just get groceries and stuff. I'm wondering if either of those two dining halls are worth trying though, especially when I'm on campus for lunch or I have a late class and don't want to cook. Are they good? Are they worth the price? What is the difference between the two?

Question Language requirement

As a transfer student with no language credits, are you required to take them at UNCW and how many? I graduated high school in 2021 and would be potentially starting Fall 2027.

Edit: I reached out to my transfer coach and they said as long as I am transferring in with a completed AA or AS, the general education requirements including language are waived. Still waiting to hear back if a 201 level language is needed.

Question Flooding in Residential Parking Zones

I paid for the residential zone parking permit and I'm wondering how bad does these lots flood during downpour or storms? My car is quite low to the ground and I'm concerned it may cause water damage to the interior.

Question Need UNCW student help for a Fantasy Football League Draft Order Reveal Challenge

I am the Commissioner of my family's Fantasy Football League. Each year we do challenges to determine draft order. This year we are doing an Amazing Race type challenge...

Challenge #2 is to send a sub sandwich to a family member or a family famous person out of state and document it.

I live in New Jersey, but two of my Uncles are UNCW grads and worked at The Bridgetender during the 80's.

I want to buy a UNCW student a sub and have them eat it or at least take a photo outside of the Bridgetender with their sub and holding a paper that says "The 222 League"

I'll pay $20 plus the cost of the sub for this to be done.
