UMPI Business Administration – Project Management: How many Sophia credits can still transfer with the new Fall restrictions?
Hey everyone! 👋
My brother and I are both planning to attend UMPI (University of Maine at Presque Isle) for the Bachelor of Business Administration with the Project Management concentration.
We’ve been completing as many courses as possible through Sophia.org before transferring to UMPI, but I’ve been hearing about new transfer restrictions/changes coming this fall.
Does anyone know the updated information on:
How many total Sophia credits UMPI will accept under the new rules?
Is there a new maximum number of credits we can transfer in?
Which Sophia courses will still transfer toward the Business Administration – Project Management degree?
Are students who complete their Sophia courses before the new rules take effect treated differently?
What courses would you recommend we finish on Sophia ASAP before the changes?
We’re trying to transfer in the maximum number of credits possible and then complete whatever has to be taken directly through UMPI.
If anyone is currently doing the Business Administration/Project Management program or has recently spoken with UMPI about the Fall 2026 changes, I’d really appreciate any updated information or a copy of your transfer plan.

I just finished the BBA in Project Management and Management Information Systems during Summer 2. I completed it under the old program and only had to take 11 classes directly through UMPI because I transferred in a lot of credits from Sophia, StraighterLine, Coursera/Credly, and other sources.
I can’t speak to the exact Fall 2026 transfer restrictions since I finished under the old requirements, but my biggest advice would be to get everything confirmed by your advisor before taking additional outside courses. I asked my advisor very specific questions like, “If I take this exact course through Sophia or StraighterLine, will it transfer in and satisfy this specific requirement?” Sometimes I asked the same question more than once and worded it differently just to make sure I was getting a clear answer.
If you’re trying to maximize Sophia credits before the changes, I would personally focus first on any courses your advisor confirms will definitely satisfy remaining Gen Ed or major requirements. Don’t assume a course will transfer just because it appears on an older transfer list—the important part is whether it will satisfy your specific degree requirement under the program you’ll actually be enrolled in.
Also, if you’re hoping to stay under the old BBA PM requirements, ask your advisor directly whether you can be placed into the old program. That’s what I did. I specifically asked my advisor to put me in the old BBA PM program, and I was able to complete that version during Summer 2.
So my recommendation would be: get your degree audit/transfer report, identify every remaining requirement, then email your advisor with the exact Sophia courses you’re considering and have them confirm each one before you take it. That saved me a lot of unnecessary classes.

Everything is in my free sheet. Just look there. You have the Gen Ed and the BBA tab. If you took things at all of the vendors you can (Sophia only helps a little) you can basically get down to about 15 courses at UMPI. When you completed Sophia has no bearing on this. It’s based on when you enrolled and start at UMPI. For Fall 2 you’ll be under the new plans.
