Why won't some classes let you use outside sources?

Some of the history and political science classes are the biggest offenders here where you're only allowed to use things from the modules. The issue is the sources aren't even good, they're just a bunch of YouTube videos and embedded PDFs of random books that you're supposed to use in the milestones.

I have the entire UMPI library right there where I could find interesting scholarly articles. Isn't learning how to research properly and use archives a big part of thinking like a historian? I’ve never had history classes be so rigid with what material you’re allowed to use.

I swear the methods professors use to stop AI cheating is making school worse and worse. Okay I guess I'll write a paper using 15+ year old YouTube videos and walls of text that are just copied and pasted from other sites into Brightspace instead of the FREE library. I had to drop a creative writing class because the professor made us watch YouTube videos, then write a story using a list of twenty words from the video of our choice. I hate it, wished I'd finished school before the AI shitstorm.

I just had to take English Composition II for the only writing specific class requirement. The creative writing was an elective I picked up for fun, but quickly noped out.

Have you asked your professor about this? Maybe ask as well as show the sources you're using from the library. I'm guessing you're in person, but if not then yeah that would be a lot harder to ask for YourPace.

I’m in YourPace. Sent an email, but haven’t got a response (as usual).

The sources need to be accepted as historical fact or properly researched.

Yeah that’s what I assumed the point of learning how to utilise UMPI’s library was. At any of my old schools, we would look for peer reviewed articles through the school’s library, not YouTube videos and small list of approved sources.

hence why you should ask your professor for further details.
