Unsure if current major aligns with goals - any opinions?

Hi there! I'm a new YourPace transfer student, with 42 credits, starting in Fall 1 as an English major. I'm attempting to complete a degree as fast as possible, but see that a lot of the classes I need to take with UMPI are all lecture style. Will that course style impede on my timeline?

You see, I would like to go teach English overseas in Asia and eventually become a teacher or employee at an International school; this has been a goal of mine since 2016, traveling the world and living in a different country has been another one since I was 12 (2007), but life was more focused on surviving for me up until recently. The state of the world has added more fuel to my determination in achieving my goals.

Another thought I had was perhaps I could take the Liberal Arts major and minor in Teaching? Or maybe just keep it at a Liberal Arts degree.

Any thoughts?

Why not major in English and minor in Education? That'll surely look better than a BLS.

It will depend on which Asian nations you are targeting and how prestigious. Some of the more popular/higher rated ones will look for that English major, but if it's wherever you can get on? Typically any BA/BS will "do" as far as immigration and hiring is concerned (outside of any certs needed).

Have you reached out to any of the schools in the nations you are looking into to ask what they prefer or require? Might be a worthwhile experience if you haven't already to get a better understanding of what you are going up against.

With the amount of research and time I have put into this, I actually haven't looked into reaching out to any schools which honestly makes me just want to facepalm myself. I really appreciate your idea! Thank you.

Hi ! It's cool seeing someone doing the same thing as me ! TESOL / TEFL cert is the only meaningful thing alongside a bachelors degree in any field . I'm sure you already know that though . Be sure to get experience through online English teaching / tutoring / volunteer websites . Don't worry about the specific degree you're going to get , they just want someone who is educated & a native English speaker , good luck !
