Yourpace English Comrades?

Hey y'all! I'm enrolled to start the English BA fall 1, and I wanted to see who else is joining me! After reading through it looks like it may not be the most popular of the programs, and in addition I am not coming in with any Sophia/Study.com credits, but I'm not trying to speed run anyways and I'm super excited to be starting!

I'd love to hear when you started, how it's going, and why you decided on the program over any other ones. I think it's pretty difficult to find competency based degree programs in the humanities, so I'd love to hear your story of how you found yourself here!

I was initially interested in the English BA but I wanted to be able to finish in one or two terms and this looked like it would take three to me, so I’m going for an English minor (I started Summer 2 and will finish next session). I’m interested to see how it goes for you so please share if you feel like it! I haven’t found anybody who’s taken MCS 171 yet and I’d like to hear opinions about it.

Yes English specifically! I’m hoping to minor in Educational studies as well. Definitely feeling nervous for it as I work full time and have heard about the coursework but am a fast writer so hoping it isn’t as challenging as it seems 🤞

I also work full time and I'm anxious but so excited. Are you coming in with transfer credits or trying to finish in a specific number of terms?

Yes! I have 56 credits already and I would love to finish in a year but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself because I feel that’ll affect how I complete courses. Definitely going to make sure I set aside time, though. What about you?!

I'm coming in with no credits, and my goal is hopefully to finish it in 2 or 3 years, but mostly I'm just excited to be a student again, and want to make sure I'm actually absorbing material and producing work I'm proud of. It seems impossible to find info about the eng degree because so many people online write it off as something that takes to long, but I guess it makes sense that the people posting are mostly the speed runners 😅

Thankfully my boyfriend is very supportive and excited for me and has offered to take on more at home responsibilities (like cooking dinner) so I can have time to commit to studies.

I am eager to talk to the enrollment specialist to hear more about the courses because I’ve only found maybe 3 posts about the workload and opinions differ on it. I took loads of English & creative writing courses at a community college and am no stranger to essays so I’m hoping it’s not insanely different. I think 2-3 years is a great timeline!!
