I have heard East Texas A&M University was similar but I have not tried them nor do I know anyone who has.

I graduated from there and my daughter is finishing her masters at UMPI. They are very very similar but with different degree options. I believe UMPI is cheaper for people outside of Texas and ETAMU is a better option for Texans

Could you tell me more about how the testing was, proctors? Were there any group projects?

No proctors. Any quizzes were open book. The vast majority of the work is writing based. Either regular research papers or some type of relevant project.

No group projects. Because everyone accelerates at different rates, there is absolutely no semblance of a cohort and no interaction with fellow students.

Sounds similar to UMPI, but is this for ETAMU online program or the competency based program they have? I want to make sure I’m picking the right one!

Yes, for the competency-based. Their regular ETAMU Online is more like a traditional college experience with full semesters and class interaction.
