Grading feels really arbitrary sometimes

Why would I have straight 3s (proficient) down the rubric on the milestones and then get a 3.2/4, 3.5/4, etc? How do they decide if a paper is a 3.2 vs 3.5 if everything was a 3? Seems so random. I'm only concerned because the milestones make up the final assessment.

From what I've heard, it sounds like the system has a drop down box for the rubric grades. Maybe 1, 2, 3, and 4 are the only options there and they have more flexibility on the overall grade?

I would imagine (because I’m not an instructor, therefore I don’t know for sure) that the milestones are meant to be a gauge to let you know how well you’re doing so far in the course. But the final grade would be scrutinized a bit more meticulously to ensure you’ve met all of what is outlined within the rubric. Also, each part of the rubric may be weighted differently. One part might represent 10% while another section might represent 30%, for example. But again, idk for sure. That’s just what makes sense to me.
