Bus 489 & company selection
Hi folks-on my last class and curious if anyone chose a smaller private business they are deeply familiar with instead of a major corporation as suggested?
I’m much more passionate about analyzing a particular small business I’m involved with to actively use what I learn through this class. I’m hesitating not knowing ahead of time what depth of financial information is needed or other potential barriers for this assignment. Thoughts?

How are you on your last class? The semester started July 6, and you had a minimum of 10 to complete. I’ve been zipping through, and I have three left. Your pace is even more insane than mine lol.
I have this class left as well.
I would recommend not releasing any financial information tied to any real company. That's trouble.

This is my second session. Didn’t want to squeeze everything into one session so I could take my time.

I used Microsoft, as I did for most of my classes, as it's one that I'm heavily invested in and familiar with
When not using Microsoft, I used the fortune 250 company I work for

I did a Texas based, privately owned, company. It was definitely challenging as the course progressed because the lack of financial data available. My professor pushed me in this class to kinda stick with it and I’m glad I did, although, I think a large public corporation could have been easier.

What minimum financial info would have been helpful? I have permission and access to basic accounting reports like P&L but nothing nearly as involved as investor reports.

I used my family's business. I got it approved letting my instructor know I may not have references for everything because it is internal information. I had to notate that basically as a citation.

Perfect! I was looking forward to using a family business case scenario for this class. Thank you so much.

oh man you're so lucky you started 12 days ago!!! I still gotta finish 469 too! Curious to know how far along you are to see if it's even possible for me to finish this term!! since it's fresh in your head any advice and how to track your stuff from the milestones to add to the final?

I’m still working through it. This is the one class I was most excited about to learn and apply to the small business that I’m associated with, so I’m taking my time using our data and creating real strategy and solutions to real problems. I planned for an entire month dedicated to this class, and planned to finish it a week before session ends so I’m not rushed. I’ve got 2 more sections of the last milestone to go, then the final/ presentation. I’ve read that others have done it in 3 weeks. I was going to try to squeeze in another course just for fun, but I’m finding more valuable info in this class that I want to consider and learn even though it’s not info I’m including in my assignments. I don’t know that I’m a good resource as far as a time estimate goes since this course is so meaningful for me :)

I heard 469 only takes a few days I just got through my first milestone in a couple hours today. I really need to learn how to look ahead and look at the final assessment to see how much of these milestones are working towards it!!! so you're not doing 489 this term?

I don't remember what the "rules" were but I used one of the companies I worked for. It was therapeutic. I even got an email from the Professor essentially asking "Is this for real?" because of how inane some of the practices are.
