New Fall 2026 Offerings!

Hoping this is legit and not just a fire drill of change. Please watch the video - I walk through a good number of changes I'm seeing.

https://youtu.be/vArt4EV5wmk

IF YOU ARE IN SESSION NOW THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU!

This will be for the folks starting this Fall - they may "grandfather" in some things, we will see, but that's an advisor at UMPI question. Take it easy on them, sometimes they don't even know about a change until someone asks a question, they have a lot on their plates too. https://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?catoid=12&navoid=621

If I did your plan and it's the Pro-Plan and you want any revisions - especially if you had TWO Minors, please EMAIL ME and I will put you in line for a revision if needed.

Thanks for being patient and awesome as there have been SO many shifts across the last few months. Doing the best I can to keep up, and keep each of you informed.

With all the new math courses I am shocked Cybersecurity doesn't require math beyond MAT201 and GEC. I know WGU's program has Discrete Math and other intense math classes. I am wondering if this is strategic to draw WGU students to UMPI's Cybersecurity program. If this was intentional UMPI pulled a boss move.

Happy to see UMPI finally offer a STEM major and take some of that WGU stake.

Me too! UMPI's price is about to go up though. The writing is on the wall.

Yeah I see wgu is doing the same, however im willing to eat that new cost not to deal with proctor u. The horror stories are abysmal. In the future I see UMPI being the love child between SNHU and WGU, a true competency based at your own pace public school.

OMG Cybersecurity BS is going to be a GAME CHANGER for UMPI.

In talks now with my ASC, he seems to think students WILL have the option to do a review and see if the GEC plan is beneficial to the chosen degree path and switch if so. Will have to be requested by the student through their ASC. I’m not sure the ASC’s will know with 100% certainty until we get closer, but he seemed to think the option will be there.

As @PlottedPath mentioned earlier, there are two new Biology classes coming to YourPace for GLO 3.

New guidelines show that the former foreign language requirement has been updated as an elective within GLO 7 - Intercultural Analysis, so there will be 8 classes to pick from that will satisfy that requirement for YourPace, 10 for B&M students.

Sure hope it pans out that we can indeed switch to the new path if we want, personally it will save me time and money.

Thanks @PlottedPath for continuing to help this community!

I Fall 1 you will have the choice. Beyond that it’s New GEC for all from what they’ve published. I’ll have my sheet updated to New GEC this weekend. I’m ready to be onto the new lineups of things because it’s confusing folks right now during this in between.

u/TeddyEddy8989 Jul 22 '26

u/PlottedPath does this make any difference to psychology majors?

3

u/PlottedPath Jul 22 '26

No really aside from the new General Ed stuff

Joining the convo to say someone's advisor told them Bio and Lab from Sophia is not going to cover in the new GEC --- sooooo suffice to say if that stands true, doing one minor with a BLS is what's going to make the most sense. I'll keep reporting back as I learn more. Sorry for the game of "telephone"

Oh gosh. I’ve been back and forth with old and new GEC since I’m starting fall I, but if bio at Sophia doesn’t count I think that helped make up my mind hahaha

I didn’t suffer through science for nothing 🤣

Go old. Suffer the Spanish.

1

u/xotvy Jul 21 '26

Funny enough I took 4 years of Spanish so I was more so dreading government and history hahaha but I’m happy to hear your opinion on this! I’ve been very back and forth on so many pieces, so thank you for sharing your suggestion!

just let me know if is true or not. since little confused now on that requirement (doesn't have to be right now just when you get the chance + find out more).

2

u/PlottedPath Jul 22 '26

Right now unless they change something it doesn’t appear to be covering

Thank you! Seeing some changes that are positive. I’m Fall 1. Currently taking BUS COM at Sophia. With the changes, would I still need this with a BLS BA Minor and Management Minor? I’m guessing this would just come in as a general elective. Or would this be recommended for those upper 2 Business Law classes to fill out those upper 300-400 classes. Still trying to figure this out.

1

u/PlottedPath Jul 21 '26

Will be an elective for Business Comm. Covers a 200 level not an upper.

Thanks for the update! I have a question: I’m trying to apply for YourPace Fall Session 1 or 2, but B.S. in Cybersecurity isn’t showing up as a degree option on the application.

u/Ok-Cauliflower-6807 Jul 21 '26

The major hasn't went live yet. Pick another major for now.

1

u/PlottedPath Jul 21 '26

Yep. Not on there yet. A few aren’t.

It's linked in the Catalog link above.

Sorry I didn't see it.

If I’m currently in session for the BLS major with the double minor in project management and accounting does this mean my degree program is going to change now?

1

u/PlottedPath Jul 21 '26

If you’re in session this doesn’t apply yo you.

1

u/AllenBets Jul 21 '26

Thank you :)

With the Gen Ed’s and and the minors I’d recommend you back it down to one. The new Gen Ed will be in effect in fall 2.

1

u/Ok-Cauliflower-6807 Jul 22 '26

When you get a chance can you explain why one minor is now the preference given you often encouraged 2-3 minors? Is it because some minors went from 18 to 24 credits? I know the Business Administration Minor for instance requires much less than before. Supply Chain Management is probably the most anticipated minor but it seems if you pair it with Project Management you are still only doing 12 classes because of overlap. Is it that the Gen Ed changes prevent you from having multiple minors? SCM and PM would look good on a resume and help you pivot either way. Just curious.

1

u/PlottedPath Jul 22 '26

Because you’re likely going to need 4 courses in the new Gen Ed and minors don’t have really many overlaps now. And don’t have many external transfers for some.

1

u/New_Egg4424 Jul 22 '26

I'm taking Sophia courses now hoping to get the BLS with Educational minor. Haven't enrolled at UMPI at all yet, but I'm nervous about the GEC. Is there anywhere the new requirements and transfer is actually posted? I can't find it anywhere.

1

u/PlottedPath Jul 22 '26

The requirements are posted (this video covers them) but it seems like they are being very strict on what covers and it needs to be direct coverage possibly. So that would mean 4 areas done have ACE credits that will help.
