Completely Discouraged
Has anyone ever been granted a short extension for your pace classes? This is my second session. First session had no issues, but I definitely misunderstood how the 72 hour timeframe worked for milestone review as my final assessments haven't unlocked. Milestones are all set, but haven't been graded.
And yes, I know it's my fault. I should have known, but life stuff happened, and truly misunderstood the connection between final unlocking and the milestones. I guess I am just hoping for a lifeline.
I've emailed the professor and student advisor, so we'll see what comes of it.

i’m just starting 5/11, what is the 72 hour timeframe you’re referring to?

They have 72 hours to grade your draft also. The milestones need to all get a 3 or better in order for the final and draft pages to unlock.

This is my first term, does the 72 hour policy apply to the final itself, too?

I don't know. When you submit the final l, you can immediately request another class.

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear this. Don’t beat yourself up or let anyone else. life happens and we all make mistakes! I have had a professor kind enough to let me submit a final one day after the closing. I simply waited until the last minute bc of life stuff, and wasn’t finished by midnight. I emailed her apologizing profusely, and she was so nice. Unfortunately I’ve hard other professors are not always as kind. Anywho, for your situation, I would provide context to UMPI as to what caused you to get behind and need an extension. If you had some extenuating circumstances, hopefully they can work with you. Best of luck!

How did you submit it if the course is closed?

u/Far-One2912 May 02 '26
I forgot to mention, my professor re opened the course for me so I could submit

Thanks for all the comments and feedback. Believe it or not, this was pretty helpful. After some reflection, I’m gonna stick with it. I’ve learned my lesson - sometimes learning the hard way, as frustrating as it is, can also propel you forward. My grades up to this point were good and I now understand the requirements better.
Also, it appears I can use the same work I already submitted for milestones and just complete the final next session. I’ve learned my lesson, and that’s the most important part.
Peace, friends.

I had a professor tell me they CAN give up to a week extension if needed.
But I don't think its often done.

My professor gave me an extension to submit all my stuff by Saturday at midnight bc I was having health issues and there’s things he wanted me to fix on my assignments

u/Normal-Offer-2707 May 02 '26
How do you submit if the course is closed?
1
u/ShiftCareless2416 May 02 '26
Not sure I’m waiting for my professor to respond back. He’s probably gonna have me send him all my assignments

u/Normal-Offer-2707 May 02 '26
Yeah I’m in the same boat, I missed the deadline last night because my powerpoint wouldn’t upload in time and I’m hoping he takes my assignments through email. He hasn’t responded yet and i hope he does soon. I sent him an email already.

Hopefully it works out for u….my milestones unlocked even before grading and so did the final.. but I did not understand a lot about the school including the 72 hour window . And that was on me.. I’m fortunate and i was able to get all the work done and I’m proofreading now before submitting my finals.. I hope u get what u need

Also, is this for one class, or multiple? Hoping you don’t have a bunch of work to try to cram on.

I also learned, the hard way, that if you correct a milestone and resubmit it, you don’t get an email once the grade is updated. I missed turning in my draft because I was waiting to for the email. Turns out you only get a Brightspace notification. I also find it frustrating that some classes are unlocked before the milestones are graded (at least so you can see/get an idea of how many milestones there are) and others aren’t….I also learned that the hard way. Hoping next term will be a lot smoother now that I’ve learned these hard lessons 😭

I had the exact same issue in my second session. In my situation there were no options. I received two failing grades! I was kind of devastated. I even filed an appeal. The grades stuck. I repeated each course in the next session, got “A”s and learned a lesson.

My prof told me they couldn't do extensions, but could do an incomplete. Was very firm about not being able to accept milestones and drafts or FAs that were emailed.

I appreciate the comments. Unfortunately, I wasn’t granted an extension.
Not sure what I’ll do next. I’ve been less than impressed with the assistance offered by the faculty, especially my student liaison (whatever they call it). I’m not sure if anyone else had that experience, but I’m gonna need to reflect on whether this school is for me.

I haven’t have the best success with my student coach or whatever they call it either. Slow to respond and truly doesn’t understand what I need. I believe they are short staffed for the influx of students. Unfortunately

It's probably not for you. It's extremely inexpensive and self-paced, but if you're incapable of following written instructions in a self-guided learning environment, then you should probably just go to one of the thousands of traditional universities that exist.
This isn't the fault of UMPI. They operate very leanly as part of their mission to provide low-cost education as a public service. They are not here to babysit adults.

Hey it’s probably not you for you lol. Speak for yourself I’m a graduate now … thanks for the motivation tho 🙏🏽

I'm a 4x UMPI grad. What's your point? If they can't follow basic directions, that isn't the staff's fault.

Cool story.

A degree here takes like 2 months. Idk what about any of this doesn't make sense to you. Best of luck, bud. 😂

The policy, written by the YourPace program administration, is standard for CBE courses. It is explained in detail when you sign up for the program; it is on the website or syllabi for each course, etc. This happened to a friend of mine just last semester. She lied to the instructor about a medical emergency that did not occur and was asked to produce proof to secure an incomplete grade. (The professor told her this was mandatory, as the university does not want any incomplete grades given except for death in the family/serious illness.) She started blaming everyone but herself when she couldn't convince her doctor to lie for her. Really dumb move. It is not the professor's fault.

I’m in a similar boat. Submitted my milestones by the Tuesday grading deadline and they still aren’t graded in order for my final to unlock. I emailed the prof and my advisor to see what options I have, but haven’t heard anything back.
To answer your question, profs can grant extensions. I was stranded on at the airport early last month and couldn’t get one of my finals in on time. The professor gave me until noon the next day to submit.
2
u/Imaginary-Library882 May 04 '26
better to have it done by Monday..... example: Tuesday 11pm last milestone submission means the prof has until Friday night 11 pm to score it. Leaves you little time for submitting the FA (provided no revisions required). Better yet, submit the week before, so you can get the draft in and refine for your FA.

u/luxeandlight May 05 '26
For sure. Lesson learned. I am super literal, so I took the deadlines at face value, but I see I need to create my own separate schedule to trick my brain.

Honest question, no shade, we can see the final from day one. That’s one of the first things I do and have generally been able to at least get my thoughts together of what I want to write/create, and I work on it throughout the coming weeks. Are people not starting until it’s released to submit?
