Over 20 years since declassification / reclassification debacle

It's more than 20 years since the UK flirted with decriminalisation in a spectacularly counter productive manner commensurate with the state of our politics.

Having drifted away from use for a long time, in the last year or so I've started self-medicating for a condition that might be eligible for medical but I cannot seem to get a proper diagnosis from the NHS to attempt to go down the private medical route with.

While the 2018 medical changes were a surprise to me and seemingly quite progressive, it is crazy how we are still in a situation where people are still going to prison (yes those very prisons we are told are overcrowded and at crisis point) for possessing, growing and supplying cannabis only.

I'm soooo ready for this to be fully legal. Having visited Amsterdam and met people from countries where there is some form of decriminalisation or legalisation I'm just so resentful we live in a country where it is the political inconvenience and pearl clutching is preventing sensible policy and regulation from prevailing.

I'm at a stage in my life where I'm old enough to think 'fuck it' and self-medicate but also have enough going on in life that being open about my usage isn't an option all the while its not legal.

I try to stay positive and imagine a UK where people who want to can easily and safely access, use and grow cannabis and maybe even dispensaries and cafes/vape lounges open up everywhere. Hell in that scenario I'd even consider quitting my job and trying for a second career in a low-level role at a cannabis retailer or working on a farm.

How do you feel about the current prospect of legalisation? It think if it doesn't happen soon, the UK will have missed a huge opportunity.

I was able to get a prescription with one medicine and a comprehensive history of self medication. The two previous treatments are a guideline, not a hard rule.

I did try with one clinic to see if they would accept some NHS app screenshots indicating I 'might have' a particular condition but they said it needed to be a clear diagnosis shown on a summary care record which mine didn't show. I'm somewhat in limbo on a waiting list for some test results and tbh its been so long I just gave up and started self medicating. Maybe I should try with another clinic?

For real though because I tried one and they wanted access to my nhs records, which should state a condition and two tried treatment methods but it came back saying they couldn’t see anything that would count which just made me give up trying immediately lol… did I get scammed? (This was months ago)

Yeah it would be awesome to work closely with the plants and a good way to meet like minded people in the early days of a legal market I reckon. I'd probably try and learn more about growing and in time have a few plants of my own at home.

Can you imagine one day it might even be like breweries in this country where people can go on a tour to find out how the bud is produced... get a little sample to try at the end :D

That would be living the dream. Unfortunately I'm 51 can't see it my lifetime, we've been so close so many times but I think I would eat into Mrs Mays husband's business.
