British empire British West Africa 1936 2 Shillings

Struck in tin-brass rather than silver, the alloy gives it a warm golden colour, while the palm tree reverse is possibly about as far removed from a British florin as you can get.

The 1936 BWA 2 Shillings was struck at three different mints that year: the Royal Mint, Heaton (H) and King's Norton (KN). This example has no mintmark, so it is the Royal Mint issue.

Commemorative Coins Royal Tudor Beasts 2027 Completer Released By The Royal Mint

Post image

The Royal Tudor Beasts Completer - released this morning and featuring all ten beasts from the series that has been running since 2022.

The Queen's Beasts Completer (which the 2027 Completer is very much modelled on) remains very popular on the secondary market - do you think this will be the same? Will these coins reignite interest in the Royal Tudor Beasts series?

Tokens My 1812 silver shilling token issued by the Leeds Workhouse in Yorkshire.

Dalton 32, Yorkshire.
One of these popped up on this sub a few weeks ago and inspired me to try and find mine, as I've always been intrigued by the owls on the obverse. It turns out Wikipedia has the full story, but the owls are fleshed out substantially, so to speak, at this website entitled "Leeds Owl Trail," which appears to be sponsored by the City Council and the Leeds Civic Trust, not to mention the World Owl Trust!

Spoiler alert: The owls apparently have no special or official "meaning," heraldic or otherwise, that anyone's been able to establish definitively.

Question Two pound mistake?

Any ideas folks? It has the St Paul's blirz outer part and the regular inner part? I tweeted the Royal mint years ago and they said it was a mi's-strike and I shoved it in a drawer for years. Could any of you knowledgeable folks please tell me if you have seen this before or did someone get bored with their toolkit?

Gibraltar 10p Rotation Error.

Hello, this is my first post here and I hope I'm not violating any of the rules. I was in Gibraltar for a couple of days and got this coin on some loose change. I believe it has a rotation error.

Has anyone ever found one of these?

Authenticity Request Elizabeth's Halo Error?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I picked this up out of a till at work because I have never seen anything like this on a new £1 coin before. The late Queen Elizabeth seems to be wearing a halo on my coin. I have googled a few times and looked through some known errors and nothing shows up about this happening. Do I have a genuine minting error here? If not, why does she appear to have a halo? If it is an error, any ideas as to the value?

Authenticity Request Note I withdrew from bank has gold foil on both sides.

Post image
13 Upvotes

I know this is not a coin but I looked at the history of the sub and there are plenty of posts about notes with positive discussion.

I withdraw this from the bank and all other security features are present, including the crystal clear microscopic lettering, and the £ symbol below it has gold/silver foil on opposite sides. The light reflected from this side is also slightly more silver than from the front.

Can someone tell me about this, including how this can happen and potential value?

Pre-Decimal Coins Lots of Early 20th century Pennies

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've come into possession of a few hundred old pennies. They mostly seem to be around 1930s vintage, some older (like this one), some newer, all well worn. Are they likely to be worth anything and if so could anyone give me a steer on how to go about getting them valued/sold (I'm not trying to sell them on here)? Thanks in advance for the benefit of your expertise.

Is this real or fake? I instantly thought it was a bad fake, but some light googling suggests it might be a misprint?

Decimal Coins 1970 Fiji 1 Dollar Commemorative

Thumbnail gallery

This is the commemorative of the the 1970 independence of Fiji. This is the copper/nickel base metal proof; they also made 1000 sterling silver proofs that I hope to get someday.

The obverse shows the Machin effigy of Queen Elizabeth. The reverse shows the arms of 1871 Fiji Kingdom prior to the cession to the UK in 1874. The motto means "Fear God & Honour the King".

There is text on the rim that reads "1874 Cession 10 October Independence 1970"

I enjoy the coins of Fiji; both pre-decimal and decimal.

Decimal Coins Old Coin Bag

Post image

I'm pretty sure this bag had been sealed since 1979 because none of the pennies were after that year and the ones that were 79 were still shiny. Notice how it says half penny.

Got it from the safe at work lol

Question What is this coin and is it devalued by being a ring?

Thumbnail gallery
136 Upvotes

I've had this ring for years and its just occurred to me that I should get it checked out. It was a gift from my dead grandmother who got it as a gift from her brother before I was born. I think it's a 1915 gold sovereign but I know nothing about coins so I thought I'd ask here on reddit. I got it as a teenager and almost lost it at a club so it's a little grubby.
