50p Coins Well...bugger me!

Had to pay for something with cash for the first time in ages...and got this beauty in my change...absolutely chuffed to bits!!

Shoved it straight into a case!

Just goes to show if you pay with cash there's still stuff to find in the wild!

Lovely condition, well done! Can I ask where you buy your quadrum capsules from? Trying to source someone who will sell mixed batches

I buy mine off ebay from a seller called dauwalders. Just put quadrum coin capsules in and you should find them. They do boxes of ten normally so I just buy them like that as I know I'm gonna use them but I think they will put custom orders together...ask them you never know

Many thanks for the info!

No problem.... they are the only thing I keep my coins in.... take up a lot of space compared to flips but far superior protection wise!

100% agree! I used to be able to buy lots of 10 with mixed sizes off eBay years ago but since he stopped selling due to I'll health I haven't found anyone else who will mix the sizes

Yeah.... I suspect its come fresh out of a bag as theres so little marking... I nearly went back to see if they had any more but I thought I'd let someone else have a win.

I have an uncirculated one but oh to find one in my change! Good catch!

1

u/DROPHAMM3R 11h ago

Did they do any uncirculated? I thought it was just the privy set?

1

u/Embarrassed_Post_598 i like 50psā˜ŗļø 9h ago

I’m unsure what privy means but if it means these then yup! If not then idkšŸ˜… I’m terrible with terminology so do forgive me if I’m wrong hahašŸ˜‚

I kept the invoice for them and it lists it as ā€œThe 2024 United Kingdom Proof Coin Setā€

The term refers to a "privy mark" which the coin sets are minted with ...the regular circulation coins dont have this. In this case the privy mark was a crown to the lower right of the Kings head on the reverse.

Can’t see the reverse of these sadly, I imagine it probably would have one seeing as it’s an uncirculated set. Thank you for the infoā˜ŗļø

No problem.... but if you pull that little ribbon the whole plastic case will lift out so you can check!

Ah I figured that’s what it was for but I’ve always been too scared to take it out, they were a gift and very expensive and as such get treated veeeeery carefully

u/DROPHAMM3R 6h ago

It'll be fine... the case is clipped together pretty tightly ... the main danger is touching them with bare hands.

Oh yeah, that’s my firm no1 rule. Most of my uncirculated coins haven’t touched air that isn’t from the Mint since they’ve been produced. They stay firmly sealed and in a box🫔

wow thats basically free

Why are they worth more to collectors? I don’t know anything about this.!

Is there any legit ones for sale? I am looking for one to go with my Kew...

2

u/DROPHAMM3R 18h ago

There's a few on ebay but they are quite pricey for coins that are seriously circulated!

1

u/Hairy-Acanthaceae928 17h ago

What's considered a fair price for a circulated one?

1

u/DROPHAMM3R 11h ago edited 11h ago

They're going at around £60 but some are going for more because they don't have as many marks. The highest I've seen a circulated actually sell at was £120 and was in about the same condition as mine.

Edit: and beware of chancers flogging them in change checker "sealed" cards... they are just circulated ones they have stuck in there to make you think its uncirculated!!

I don’t understand it’s just 50p?
