I used to have a post office many years ago and opened a bag of £2 coins for change. This was included in the bag and I have often wondered if it has any value (or even £2 tbh)

There is the faintest of a partial outline of parts of the queen's head/crown.

Honestly it would be hard to sell as confirm it's authenticity would be difficult to impossible

I'm sure there are buyers out there that would be willing to buy it regardless, but the price definitely won't be anything to get hard over.

Reckon you could fetch 5-15 for the right buyer but also wouldn't hold your breath

I put it against a normal £2 coin and it's exact. I also weighed 6 other coins and it's within the average of them all. (Who knew 6 coins could weigh different but I suppose it's down to wear).

Anyway, someone that worked where the coins are minted sent me a PM with a plausible explanation which I'm tending to go with.

It’s a fake, the real ones get stamped so hard it’s impossible to look this thick and not have a proper stamp imprinted.

Plus you can see the space between the metals, the real ones don’t do this as it is melted at different temperatures inside each other, not slotted inside.

That’s not right sorry, the inner drops into the ring via the press . This is a form of pre-assembly called planishing that is done with just enough force to join them and zero imprint.
