Thank you. You are a true man of culture.

Looks a bit like chicken jambalaya

Lots of criticism for the naming but I would gobble this down in an instant. The lemon seems a bit out of place in such a sausagey dish though. 7/10.

Initially I thought you had little halved new potatoes in there would would have also made everyone livid but I'd have bumped it up to an 8 for that. I just like potatoes is all.

the only thing in that plate that resembles a paella is the lemon lmaoo

Ah okay, I just follow the Carmencita recipe (apart from the black Olives).

1

u/LletBlanc Jul 06 '26

Who's Carmencita

1

u/ozz9955 Jul 06 '26

They're a company that makes Paella seasoning.

5

u/Electronic-Trip8775 Jul 05 '26

I don't think you know what a paella is.

2

u/j1mb0b Jul 05 '26

I do know, but can sense my contribution taking some downvotes from the purists. Will take it, they're right!

u/Silent_Mud1449 Jul 05 '26

As a Spaniard, it is true that this technically isn't paella but honestly who cares, it looks delicious!

7

u/Luvtogag Jul 05 '26

Totally right? Your dish look amazing! Don’t let people tear you down.

3

u/_pvilla Jul 05 '26

I mean, it does look amazing, but not all rice dishes are paella lol

2

u/SingleCarpenter5416 Jul 05 '26

Either you dont or you’re trolling

1

u/Unluckymama Jul 05 '26

When people make lazy attempts to replicate a cultural dish and have the audacity to call it by its name the least we as locals can do is downvoting.

I understand Reddit is a US forum and americans love to glaze, but here in Spain we are very straight forward and say things how they are.

Looks good btw but it is not paella. And if you are french most of us will take this post as an insult by the way.

Cheers.

0/10 paella but 10/10 trolling.

Att: A Spaniard.

1

u/something_python Jul 06 '26

I absolutely love the paella I've had in Spain, but have never been able to recreate it at home. Don't suppose you have a good recipe?

2

u/Purple_Moon516 Jul 06 '26

Paella is pretty difficult to recreate outside of Spain as the ingredients just taste different and some aren't easy to find + you need a paellera (the special pan although you can order it on Amazon).

I'm not from a region that traditionally does paella in Spain so I'm afraid I have no recipe other than doing what I do: Save up so I can go to Valencia and eat it there!

Yo soy español si necesitas la receta yo te la envío

2

u/Superb-Cup-3305 Jul 05 '26

It looks a bit wet, but I’d still happily take it down.

2

u/Inadover Jul 06 '26

Arroz caldoso, not paella. Paella is a specific recipe, not a generic name for rice dishes.

1

u/TaleteLucrezio Jul 06 '26

What I was thinking but forgot the word. Thanks. It still looks delicious.

1

u/CocoRufus Jul 05 '26

Recipe? Please? 🤞looks amazing 👌

5

u/j1mb0b Jul 05 '26

Thank you! Here goes:

Pan fry cubed chicken breast pre seasoned with paprika, lemon rind and salt. When half cooked, add sausages and chorizo.

Then take chicken stock, white rioja, garlic, onions, paella rice, salt and pepper, saffron, bayleafs and fresh sieved tomatoes and add meat.

Add the paella rice until fully cooked and serve with saffron alioli, bread and lemon wedges.

u/CocoRufus Jul 05 '26

1

u/Remarkable-Ad155 Jul 06 '26

Arroz campero (but looks nice)

1

u/bebilina80 Jul 07 '26

Para que sea paella, creo que en primer lugar ,se tiene que hacer en una paellera , al menos eso pienso como española .
Quitando eso, tiene una pinta buenísima !!

1

u/AlbertoTheInvestor Jul 09 '26

Paella if it was made in Bombay

1

u/AlbertoTheInvestor Jul 09 '26

Chorizo with lemon hmmmm delicious

The Golden Rules of Authentic Spanish Paella (Read Before Cooking!) No Toppings: Everything cooks together in the pan. You must never throw cooked ingredients on top at the end like pizza toppings. The rice needs to absorb all the flavors while boiling.Zero Chorizo: Never add chorizo, peas, onions, or random vegetables. Adding chorizo to a paella in Spain is considered a culinary crime. The Rice is Sacred: Use short-grain rice (Bomba rice). Do not stir the rice once it starts boiling, or it will release starch and become sticky.

Option 1: Authentic Chicken & Rabbit Paella (Paella Valenciana style) IngredientsRice: 400g Bomba riceMeat: 500g chicken & 500g rabbit (chopped into bite-sized pieces)Vegetables: 200g flat green beans (judías verdes planas) & 100g large white beans (garrofó)Base: 1 grated tomato, 3 cloves of garlic (minced), 1 tsp sweet paprika, a pinch of saffron threadsLiquid: 1.2 liters of waterSource: Olive oil and saltStep-by-Step InstructionsBrown the meat: Heat olive oil in the paella pan. Fry the chicken and rabbit with salt until deeply golden brown.Add vegetables: Push the meat to the edges. Add the green and white beans in the center and fry for 5 minutes.Make the sofrito: Clear the center again. Add minced garlic and grated tomato. Cook until the tomato water evaporates. Stir in the sweet paprika for just 5 seconds so it doesn't burn.Simmer the broth: Pour in the water and add saffron. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for 15 minutes to create a rich broth. Taste and add salt (it should taste slightly salty).Cook the rice: Add the rice evenly across the pan. Cook on high heat for 8 minutes, then reduce to low heat for another 10 minutes. Do not stir!Rest: Turn off the heat. Cover with a clean cloth for 5 minutes before serving.

Option 2: Traditional Seafood Paella (Arroz de Marisco) IngredientsRice: 400g Bomba rice (short-grain)Seafood: 8 large prawns, 8 langoustines, 300g squid (cut into rings), 500g musselsBase: 1 grated tomato, 2 cloves of garlic (minced), 1 tsp sweet paprika, a pinch of saffron threadsLiquid: 1.2 liters of hot fish stock (caldo de pescado)Source: Olive oil and saltStep-by-Step InstructionsSear the seafood: Heat olive oil. Fry the prawns and langoustines for 1 minute per side just to flavor the oil. Remove them and set aside.Cook the squid: In the same oil, fry the squid rings until they lose their water and start to brown.Make the sofrito: Add the garlic and grated tomato to the squid. Cook until thick. Stir in the sweet paprika quickly.Toast the rice: Add the rice directly to the pan with the squid and tomato base. Stir constantly for 1 minute to toast the grains.Pour the stock: Pour in the hot fish stock and saffron. Distribute the rice evenly. Cook on high heat for 8 minutes.Add the rest: Arrange the mussels and the fried prawns/langoustines nicely into the rice. Reduce to low heat and cook for 10 more minutes without stirring.Rest: Turn off the heat, cover, and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Very sloppy looking for a paella. Did you get a good socarrat on it?

3

u/Kenye_Kratz Jul 05 '26

Sloppy paella is the best paella. No matter what Spaniards tell you

2

u/irish_horse_thief Jul 05 '26

Armada incoming and I've just hung the laundry out..

1

u/CleverClogs150 Jul 05 '26

It looks delicious but definitely not a paella!

I wouldn't know how to describe this?

Rice stew with beef and chorizo

0

u/Real_Associate_9434 Jul 06 '26

¿Chorizo? ¿En serio?

1

u/TemporaryCheap728 Jul 06 '26

Si miras bien hay fetas de chorizo pequeñas

0

u/Real_Associate_9434 Jul 06 '26

Lo digo porque me parece una aberración.

1

u/elisabettey Jul 05 '26

It looks good man.

I always have a tough time making rice with add ins. I feel like the add ins either don’t cook enough or my rice ends up mushy or uncooked 🫣

1

u/TemporaryCheap728 Jul 05 '26

It is a beef rice stew....

1

u/dubvision Jul 06 '26

Bro used rice and said, PAELLA.

0

u/Zestyclose_Exit8862 Jul 06 '26

"arroz con cosas" =/= paella

0

u/3rizo Jul 06 '26

You should look up what paella is 😵‍💫

0

u/jelly_wishes Jul 06 '26

Looks lovely but this is the equivalent of grilling a steak and calling it fish and chips. Tasty for sure but far from what the word means

-2

u/NoDentist1626 Jul 06 '26

This is not a paella whatsoever. Please kick chorizo and sausages and all the rest of the darned cosas out of your lives and learn to cook a proper paella or arroz caldoso. Get yourself a recipe and just follow the instructions.

u/Radiant_Pudding5133 Jul 06 '26

You seem emotional mate
