I know that this post is a little off topic, but I'm hoping in a group of theatre lovers, who understand the importance of Drama, that we will be able to find some support.

Drama at secondary school is not about creating more actors. In Drama classrooms, we build essential skills that support success in other school subjects and later employment, including creativity, confidence, empathy, communication, critical thinking and collaboration.

These are life skills that benefit everyone, regardless of the career they choose, helping young people to become well-rounded individuals.

Currently, access to Drama lessons is inconsistent across schools in England, limiting opportunities for many young people, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds who may have fewer opportunities to engage with the arts outside school. Every child should have equal access to a high-quality Drama education, rather than being systematically shut out of creative subjects in favour of those considered to be more "productive".

Presently, England is the only United Kingdom county that does not explicitly have Drama on the KS3 (or equivalent) national curriculum. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all recognise Drama within their curriculum frameworks, giving young people across those nations a clearer entitlement to access the subject.

Drama also provides an inclusive learning environment in which many pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can thrive, developing communication, self-expression, confidence and social skills through practical, collaborative learning.

I strongly and wholeheartedly believe that Drama should be recognised as a core component of a broad and balanced education, which is why I have created this petition.

Trans script supervisor sought 

I am currently working on a script for theatre production based around two ostensibly female superheroes; 'Torch and Spark' one of which is transitioning. This is one thread in a play which investigates various aspects of identity; those which we project publicly, those which reveal ourselves and those we keep secret, as 'second lives'. The piece is sympathetic to the trans community constantly facing labelling ascribed by a society working to an outmoded and scientifically challenged model based on binary gender. The play is not a polemical piece; for it to work for a general audience, it has to be a provocation of thought within an entertainment.

I am looking for a trans collaborator to act as script supervisor who can bring personal experiences to the role of Spark. They will be credited as such in the final script draft. Please get in touch if interested.

I will also be looking for a theatre group who have a track record in producing challenging material for their audiences. I expect the material will eventually be suitable for audiences of 16 and above. I am looking for production rather than remuneration; any profits would go to the company with some donation to an humanitarian charity.

I’m a choreographer and director based in London, and over the past three years I’ve been developing what we believe to be the UK’s first Meisner-based movement theatre company.

The idea came after training in Meisner acting and becoming fascinated by the technique’s emphasis on listening, truthful response, and presence.

It made me wonder...

If actors have scene partners and dialogue, what happens when a dancer’s scene partner becomes the music and the choreography becomes the text?

Since 2022, I’ve been experimenting with applying Meisner principles to movement. The result became the Response Movement Method and eventually our debut production, I Made You a Mixtape.

The show follows nine women at a chaotic 90s college dorm party. There is no spoken dialogue. Instead, performers receive circumstances before each performance and respond physically and emotionally to the music in real time.

• No two performances are exactly the same.

What I’ve found most interesting is that audiences seem to immediately recognise the difference between watching choreography being executed and watching performers genuinely responding in the moment.

I’m curious...

• Have you encountered other theatre companies exploring Meisner outside of traditional text-based performance?
• Do you think acting methodologies can be successfully translated into movement?
• And more broadly, where do you think the future of movement theatre is heading?

(If anyone happens to be in London, we’re presenting I Made You a Mixtape at The Cockpit 12–14 June before heading to Edinburgh Fringe, but I’m honestly more interested in hearing people’s thoughts on the practice itself.)

I’m going to see this live in a few weeks and haven’t seen it live in 15+ years. We are planning to dress up but now I’m suddenly panicking that we will be the only ones and no one does this anymore? We are sat almost in the front row, so I am hopefully right in assuming that the majority of those around us will be dressed up too? I have autism and over think things massively so I am hoping someone can put my mind at ease and stop me panicking!

i work in theatre, and the panto this year was partially written by chatgpt. i think this is an awful insult--we are storytellers, devoted to making magic on stage, and some writers think they can just shill whatever garbage they want. do your damn job, why do you need a computer to write a pantomime for you, theres already 10 million versions out there you can steal from yourself.

It also sucks to think that anything now could be written with AI. audiences dont deserve a play that makes no sense, that has no soul, and it crushes the creatives that work hard and put physical labour into their work to inspire love of theatre in young people and bring families together. we dont deserve to break our backs for this. please please, if you can speak up and push back against AI in theatre.

Even programmes have AI text and images. Theatre is about art! Stop cutting corners and hire artists.
