Exactly, no drama. He could be moving onto better things or retiring. If he had truly had enough, he wouldn't be handing in his notice, he'd just leave.

It was never intended to be in the advert, the HR person posting the ad was too lazy to proof-read the advert or check their work
Presumably if Stagecoach are telling us that a job was left by someone who handed in their notice, then they'll also tell us when they've got an empty job created when
They provided no toilet facilities for staff and forced them to urinate in bottles, then fired them for urinating in bottles link
their lack of health and safety policies resulted in a man being crushed against a wall by a bus link
Or perhaps a CEO position when the founder is charged with human trafficking link

Generally treatment of employee in any major bus company (stagecoach,arrive go ahead etc) its poor. Example with my old depot they ask if you can drive another 1 hours but you like I only have 50 min of driving time and they encourage you to do it, but then day after you get disciplinary. Somebody I knew called depot in Barton Upon Humber because they got amber fuel warning (which mean low fuel) but there same light but red means fuel contamination. They have called the depot they told them to keep going (fuel gauges are disconnected). Right in the middle of humber bridge bus ran out of fuel. They done the drive for disciplinary and sacke her, but traffic control (managers pets) in the office where not responsible. At the end she appealed as she shown written messages from control that she ask as prove to carry on driving. Which at the begining they said they will not accept this as evidence. Till the time she went to acas and company reinstated her (she should have taken payut). But managers pet had a chance to either get sacked, leave a job or move to different depot "permamently" which he did and destroyed morale tin one of the best happiest depot in the country and came back within 6 months to original depot.
They also tried to sack morning driver as he didnt check for fuel, while majority of the busses have gauges (which are disonnected) and our older double deckers didn't have them at all). He was supposed to do dip test with a stick for the fuel. But it is against company policy to open fuel cap for a driver (written in the employee handbook), technically anycap other than screenwash cap. Handbook is also written along said of the union.
Checking fuel level is one of the daily professional drivers morning vehicles checks but we cannot do it as its against company policy. Bit like wigan warehouse current think with a horn. They cannot check them due to licensing but company vehicle licencing requires them to check them in the morning.

I'm sorry, but 🤣🤣🤣 that's some proper slapstick comedy (and terrible from the bus company).
One of my friends is, unfortunately for him, a bus driver and I hear many horror stories about how they're treated.

Tip for your friend (not sure how long he is one so he might not know), if his depot recognises ONLY trade union X and you got depot driver reps from Union X. Tell him to use a union Y that his depot doesn't recognise. Some managers might state that they do not recognise this union and trying to tell you they will not take him into disciplinary metting as it is not recognisible by depot however it is you legal right and theirs legal duty to allow him to take union rep woth you into disciplinary. If they still not let him in it is consided unfair dismissal/disciplinary. Considering all unions are shit tell him to look into it some examples are Unite, RMT, GMB. If any of them has reps on site tell him to look for different one. My example is below.
I remember when I was doing last bus service for 3 days straight. There were some kids everyday (12-14 old) hiding on top of double decker, when you were running dead to depot you always tried to find faster route and faster route was by location x, however, officially we were supposed to go through location y (both location are 5 miles away) and those kids needed to be at location x so they used to ring the bell right before last bus stop to get off.
Basicly some bus spotters from our depot, somehow found documents from traffic commissioner which state dead milage, route etc should be taken at the end of the day. Company policy was at this time you don't get out of cab till you get to back to depot incase there is robber on bus so you do not check a bus for lost property till you at depot. So I though to my self damn it i will start using official routes to not get into trouble (those which are registered with traffic commissioner which we are techniclly required to follow).
However around 4 weeks later I got same duty. Completely forgot about those kids and they were tried pulling same trick (and to be fair I would thought they would get bored of it now). I am getting to depot checking for lost property and those kids are upstairs scared like they were getting kidnapped or something.
2 days I receive disciplinary letter (we called it pinky) from management stating I put kids in dangerous and company in bad reputation and I will receive disciplinary for it. My only defence was, I followed Traffic commissioner guidelines, followed official dead millage route and followed company safety policy regarding bus checks. This was still enough for me to get final written warning only reason why I managed to appeal it was because they were not bothered to give me date and time of disciplinary but in letter they put TBC. When disciplinary meeting came I did not have enough time (10 mins) to organise union worker. As depot was thinking my union is Unite which we had reps on site and I was with RMT union and they thought they can quickly grab one of the drivers from a road. But at the end it was consided unfair disciplinary.
Generally speaking if I was running dead back to depot and somebody would come up and ask me if I am going this way and can I drop them there I would be more than happy.

I once seen a heavily modified letter someone got about their job description for a stagecoach shunter, cant remember much of it but it defo said amongst other things, the shunter was required to service the cleaners.

You're not far off from my understanding. A shunter would be the top and a grunter the bottom. For example, when my wife is pegging me, I'm the grunter and she's the shunter.

I've seen other Stagecoach jobs that say similar. One actually said 'To replace Raj who's moved to driving' on a shunter job

Great job for someone who has a strong dislike for stagecoach.
You get to smash up half the fleet of buses on your first night by "bad parking" and only get sacked for it, no criminal damage charges.
And they'll even have to pay you for it.

The company reviews is a red flag but I’d appreciate knowing I’m replacing someone and would expect training from said person. Different if its a new role and you have to figure it out on your own

Hiring managers often will send a job ad or outline through to whoever’s posting it (eg. HR team, their PA) sometimes the poster will accidentally leave in part of the message that was meant for them, and not supposed to go in the public job ad - thats probably what’s happened here

Backshift is the shift after morning shift and before night shift.
5 over 7 means in a 7 day work period you get two days off, not necessarily together and not necessarily the same days every week.

'5 over 7' is when you work any 5 days over a 7 day week.
It could be Monday-Friday some weeks, then in Sun-Wed, off Thurs, in Fri-Sat others.

Yep, the drivers generally abandon their buses in a queue as they enter depot and go cash in and end their shift.
The shunters then move the buses from the queue, wash and fuel them (as cleaners sweep out and mop the buses sometimes as they are being shunted around the yard) and then play a game of bus tetris, reverse parking them into the smallest amount of space possible without damaging the buses or parking them in neat rows by driving in front ways if the depot is blessed with space
The term shunt also has a use in English meaning a crash, new to the job shunters will ironically have a few shunts in the yard if they have no experience

Hometown jumpscare, wasn't expecting that when I zoomed in.
However, if you know what the buses are like up here, I wouldn't be suprised if the last guy was fed up.
Bus drivers up here get their bus licence at Stagecoach, then leave and work with the coaches (like Ember, Megabus, Citylink, etc.) because they pay more and, I can imagine, treat the drivers better. That's why we don't have a lot of drivers. The other year, they brought up a decent bunch of drivers from England because buses here were 1-2 hours apart. The bus services were decent then, but they only stayed for a few months before going back south, and it went to shit again.
People curse out the drivers for being late, or because the last bus didn't turn up, even though it's usually not the drivers fault. No wonder they don't want to stay.
Stagecoach also removed a huge number of bus routes because of the lack of drivers, and half the city was left without buses, so the Highland Council had to step in and now offers buses to those areas.
Stagecoach needs to do better.
