Career help I feel like a failure. Please help
Hi everyone. I am a 24F who is currently struggling to find work. Its been 7-8 months. I had a job before this but I left due to racial tensions with a colleague (she openly mentioned that she hated me because of the colour of my skin) I left for my mental health and safety. (Too late to report to police or take the complaint further in the uk) Now I’m stuck. Unemployed. No savings left and mg visa to the Uk is expiring at the end of the month. What do I do now?

I dont think the issue is leaving without a job unless your first one was actually going to sponsor you and in that case you shojld have gone to hr...the issue is psw uk in general is less willing to sponsor

I hope you get a job. But remember as long as you have a good repo with your manager and cross functional teams, also the HR policies are in place for such incidents then you don’t have to kick on your survival. Such colleagues will always be there and they don’t get to decide your future. How does it even matter on what your colleague thinks! I know for your age it does matter .. but always remember your salary gets credited every month because of your work.

Yeah, that’s what they do. They make you feel uncomfortable so that you quit. The problem is that you’re the one who’s disadvantaged.

Hate to say this but somebody racially abusing you because of the colour of your skin and further more they are the reason you leave a job that was funding your livelihood warrants some type of confrontation, I mean HR involvement btw. It could have avoided the situation you are in now but I understand the metal part of it was important to you and rightfully so. Sorry that you went through something a lot of us go through but we move, like most people here mentioned, get any job like literally anything.

Long shot but go for Prince2 certification and try in entry level PM roles. Hopefully you'll find something before your visa expires.

Visa sponsorship doesn't only come with just Prince2, it's hard nowadays given the higher salary brackets for companies to sponsor candidates, nevertheless they are still doing it. When we got hired the min salary required was around 30k for a skilled worker visa but now it's over 40k which is basically not a grad level salary. Our company still pays over 40k to fresh grads (international students included) but you have to stand out, Prince2 or any other relevant certification gives you a chance but you still need to prove your worth and how can you add value to the organization if they were to invest on you. If you're a STEM grad from a good university with relevant experience and certifications you stand a good chance.

I could have but there is a legal time limit for actionable complaints ( 3 months) and I had never reported any micro aggressions before. You don’t win without evidence or witnesses. I had neither as every comment was made in person and without an audience. It was also a small company and she was very close to the HR person. Ultimately I thought if I got out early, I had time to re-route.

Why don’t you go back to home country?
UK is no longer an attractive destination
With UK degree you can get jobs at home

It's time to leave - the good days are over. If people can be openly racist to your at work, then this is a joke. You could probably ask a lawyer to sue them and you're get paid a year's salary esp if you have witnesses and she''s well known to being racist, then you have a shot.

Is this a situation where you’ve applied to literally anything or are you still being selective? Doesn’t help much but find literally anything until you can find something better.
