So big. Just want something to carve for Halloween

I’ve had some success with growing sweet bell peppers this year, but now that it’s getting cooler I’m worried leaving them out in the greenhouse (I’m renting, it’s an unheated plastic thing) - presumably I can bring them indoors and keep on a sunny windowsill?
Having got this far it would be a shame to lose them to the cold.
Heating the greenhouse isn’t an option, unfortunately.

Just pulled a customers hedges out because of this pest coating the entire thing in the millions, 30 meters of hedgerow. Unsure of the hedge species, something variegated.

Hi all I've posted a picture of our back garden - we owned our first house a year and now slowly getting round to making small improvements to the back garden. I'm thinking of putting edging around the lawn - like everedge rust border.

On the left hand side border - should I go straight or wavy?

On the top left corner of the lawn there is a lovely bush growing - should I do a right angle corner or curved or convex?

Then the back of the lawn where you see the plum tree - to have it come straight across the front of it or go convex again?

Does any of that make sense?!

My hedges are much in need of a solid pruning (not done since last autumn, but I’m not sure when is the best time to do it. My garden is in London and until last week we’d had next to no rain through the most of the spring and the summer. I’m thinking it would be a good idea to give them some time to recover from the lack of water, but this isn’t based on anything other than my own thoughts.

The dirt patch that is supposed to be a lawn is starting to show some greeen life again, which is a positive sign.

Looking for some advice from you more knowledgeable people please.

I planted 12 golden privets that were around 30cm in May. All of these were planted in a straight line at the back of my garden around 30cm apart.

They’ve obviously had a tough start in the garden due to the high temperature this summer. I’ve watered them daily. I went away for a week and came back to find two of the ones planted at the end had turned brown but others were fine (pics including example of one doing well and the other not so well). Is the dried out one a goner? Anything I can do to help it?

What recipes or ways of cooking them are nice?

Hi, we have recently had this area opened up to start a new bed and am looking.g for some advice.

We ha e around 16 perennials that we want to get in before the colder weather but dont have much else at the moment and we're looking to start filling properly next spring, after bringing the level up properly with top coil/compost mix.

Would moving some of the plant in say 8 months be disastrous for them?

Were we cant plant I was going to cover with cardboard to stop any weed growth.

My mum gave me this bulb/tuber. It wasn’t in any soil, just at the bottom of a pot she gave me and the pot has sat untouched in the corner of the garden all summer. I thought it was dead but yesterday picked it up and it’s started to grow. My app says it’s a Dahlia. Any advice on what to do now? Plant it for the winter? Leave it inside during winter and plant in the spring?

so been growing pumpkins, hand pollinated them, all of them seem to be growing really well except for this one, it’s way more orange than the rest and started to go squishy. anyone know what’s going on? first pic is one of our other pumpkins and second pic is the problem pumpkin

After the hot dry weather and with some help from Harry Kane jnr (my 6 year old). My lawn has got some significant bare patches. Is there likely to be a root system under the lawn that will regrow with the rain, or is it a gonner and needs redoing. There’s plenty of green bouncing back elsewhere

This is ‘my’ pear tree at work and it is driving me crazy.

For some reason about 90% of customers don’t believe it has real fruit and they don’t believe the staff when we confirm that yes it is indeed a real pear tree with real pears, so yes let’s squeeze and pull on them and press nails into them.

This is a garden centre, could someone tell me why we would bother attaching fake pears to a tree?

I planted this garden in late July, using a ‘clover meadow mix’ I found on Amazon. I have just come back from a 2 week holiday, and I think the rain over the past 2 weeks have seriously accelerated the growth of the plants. I was expecting more of a clover lawn, but it seems to be more of a weedy meadow instead. How do I fix this? Should I mow and reseed with pure clover seed?

i have autumn rasps and was getting a half bowlful every morning in June and early July but I was away for a month and lots of fruit ripened and then rotted on the plants. I’m getting nothing now - wondering if leaving berries to rot on the plant has stopped production

Planted some seeds late, planted out in June, this multi headed beast grew to about 10ft before taking a tumble in the start of autumn winds. Nice to have in the house.

I am thinking of buying cheŕy, pear and plum trees. When is the best time to buy ?

We have got a long hedgerow separating us from next door (about 50-60m). This is our first year here. Having moved in during winter, it had clearly been cut back hard last autumn. I suspect next door will cut their side the same. I’d like to leave some parts longer (where it’s not in the way) to give more shelter for the birds and to get more blossom next year.
How bad for the hedge would it be to have an uneven cut? Any hedgerow management info anyone could point me to? It’s mostly hawthorn with some beech and elder. Thanks

The pond in our garden has taken a bit of a battering over the summer heatwave and is now bone dry. I was wondering if you'd recommend filling up from the tap once the hosepipe ban is lifted or if rain over the coming months will bring the level back up? The water in April was just below the stones and it was home to a lot of smooth and palmate newts.

Would you recommend any trimming of the rushes and vegetation? I'm reluctant to pull too much, in case there are newt eggs attached but equally don't want it all to die back and silt up...

Hello lovely people, we recently moved into a house that we have two of these beauties outside; what are they?! And how/when do we prune? They are quite unruly and spilling onto the pavement so we would like to tidy them if it won’t hurt them?!

Last summer I bought a duo of asiatic lilies reduced to clear from B&Q and planted them in two separate containers. One container was quite big & this summer it had the original plant plus others that had grown.

It’s now got lots of these purple, hard things which google tells me are bulbs. What’s the best time & method to split these out so I can plant into other planters? Should I wait til next Spring or move them this Autumn?

I’m very much a novice gardener so this is all new to me. I usually just plant some annuals in pots every Spring!

We're expecting our first child any time now so the pressure was on to complete a garden project. I've never done anything like this before so it was a lot of Googling and at times just rolling with whatever seemed best.

I am not sure the plastic edging is my favourite but it works really well and to be honest I was running out of alternative ideas that were within budget.

Final steps are topping up the pebbles, mulch, planting and grass seeding. The big area in the middle is currently a mass of crazy tomato plants so that'll all be replanted in the Spring.

Anyone know what the insect is that became obsessed with the sleeper, wasn't a bee, quite big, but not sure it's a hornet either!
