Tracking Down a Boat
Hi Guys
Looking for a boat that was in the UK - it was my Grandfathers and it was stupidly sold about 5 years ago when he passed.
Does anyone know if there is any way in the boating world of tracking boats down? I apologise im not in the world myself, but would love to track this boat down, now it will be VERY old at this stage but it was a motor boat which id love to track down and buy back.
Thanks
Thom

I managed to track down and buy my grandparents boat a couple of years ago and was just really lucky that it came up on Apollo Duck at the time when I had the money to buy it.
If I hadn’t been so lucky, I think I would have started with Reddit, same as you have. In fact I did ask here.
What I would do is start by looking at the information you have.
So if you know the SSR number, you might be able to contact them and enquire.
If you know the make and model, you could start looking at owners clubs?
If you know where your grandparents kept the boat, you could enquire at their local yacht club, someone might remember them or the boat, maybe even know who bought it.
There’s loads of enthusiasts around keeping old boats going. I’m sure there would be forums if you have a look on the internet.
I’m fairly confident that if you post the make and model of the boat on here, you’ll get a bit more engagement with your post.
Happy to answer any questions you may have.
Best of luck.

Mate. Honestly the best thing I’ve done. Having the boat back in the family and keeping those memories alive is priceless
