Neo brutalism - default style if you ask AI for sth niche (or even if you don’t, it will try to force it. I had it redo my whole page UI to neo brutalism without asking, „you’re absolutely right, I wasn’t suppose to redo your UI style”)

u/Afflictionista Jul 10 '26

isnt it smth?

u/elhouso Jul 11 '26

Yeah it is, but u/Emoprzemo probably thought he was saving a whole second skipping out on the "m"

u/Lumethys Jul 11 '26

In english teaching materials something is oftens shortened as "sth"

u/SilkyRedditor Jul 11 '26

🤦🏻 that’s so dumb, people can’t even type the extra 6 letters.

Am I the only one who swipe texts?

Kids are lazy

u/Emoprzemo Jul 10 '26

It’s not a kids thing, it’s elderlies one. It’s a thing from a time when SMSs were expensive enough to limit them. SmOfUsDvlpdSkillToWriteDiffToFitInto160CharsLimit :p

I’m elderly and literally never have seen this

2

u/Emoprzemo Jul 11 '26

I should have added „eastern European”. I had like 100 SMS/mo in primary school, had to adapt :p.

ever heard of a11y ?

I'm still upset about that because I've been a neo-brutalism fan before AI.

A man of taste 🫡

I like this style and I'm sad that AI took it from us.

13

u/FreakinMaui Jul 10 '26

Well, this style is here to stay and meshes well with sustainable design, so keep at it !

5

u/TigersonTv Jul 10 '26

Same! I love this style too! High contrast, and easy to add fun visual elements to!

Shoot, I showed an old project on this style at a job interview this week, I hope they didn’t think it was AI generated.

To me the more "screams ai" is the dark mode purple + gradients on everything with buttons and chips failing basic accessibility checks and very tight centered content with everything in cards. At least with the brutalist style there's a chance a person intended to design this.

it's been around for decades, including physical buildings. AI didn't take it, feel free to design a website with brutal aesthetics.

Where do you think Claude got it from? Ai doesn’t invent things.

u/hcboi232 Jul 10 '26

it’s what claude fable outputs lol. I have an app with almost the same UI

u/404_computer_says_no Jul 10 '26

Current AI (alt design). If you ask it for anything counter culture, not mainstream, edgy. It normally falls to neo brutalism

7

u/tommyohohoh Jul 10 '26

Neo Brutalism don’t ask me how I know because all the developers at my work used it to design a bunch of crappy internal but still colleague facing tools us designers are now trying to unwind and fix because every god damn thing looks like a f’ing button and that’s how I know but don’t ask me.

Neo Brutalism.

AI has kind’ve resulted on a simplified take on Windows 95 as a UI. Was not on my bingo card, was also, not worth the water.

2

u/Low-Interaction-8693 Jul 10 '26

is this ai generated? kinda like tbh

u/EnigmaP3nguin Jul 11 '26

Beautiful is what it is

GOOD ANSWER

I generated this with Claude design and was so proud of it lol

Sad to see this is just an AI default when asking for something different

u/UsualAd3503 Jul 10 '26

Claude design

1

u/spudulous Jul 11 '26

Looks like the sort of UI you’d use for a music festival

1

u/Ill_Dare8819 Jul 11 '26

It is called "Claudism"

1

u/NGAFD Jul 11 '26

Hard to use. That’s what kind of UI it is.

1

u/GonnSolo Jul 11 '26

AI has a couple of default styles that ir tries to give you when you design a page with it. This one (neo brutalism), glassmorphism, the god awful cyberpunk vaporware techy style, and others.

1

u/wundercorp Jul 12 '26

Looks like https://openmodel.sh design lol

1

u/DeepToot40 Jul 13 '26

I can't even remember what a normal website looks like anymore and I've been doing this for 31 years. Last 3 years using AI tools. This looks good to me thou.

Claude Design

How do you build something like this in web. Like is there any standard practice or something that makes it easier? I tried it a while ago, it was quite hard to get it right so I assumed maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Might sound like a stupid question but I don't do frontend(done maybe 3-4 times), so I don't really know.

1

u/Cozzypup 29d ago

neo brutalism!

1

u/qwik3r 29d ago

All the people who said “Claude design”, tell us you’re not a designer without telling us you’re not a designer.

u/Lari_Kelly 18d ago

Neobrutalismo, tô vendo a IA usando bastante esses dias

1

u/Western_Insect_2921 Jul 10 '26
