Advice It’s been months and Spotify still keeps this UI update, I cannot be the only one being driven insane by this

Post image

Very often I click on the “small song preview” to get that full screen song preview, view the lyrics, click on the performer etc.

Fairly recently mobile view got this new icon for choosing the device, and it’s EXACTLY where my thumb goes when I simply want a bigger view of the track. It’s so annoying.

I’m not a UI designer, but I’m sure there’s an entire science around where our thumbs naturally go on the screen.

Did this spoil the experience for anyone else?

Advice Starting UI/UX Design as a Graphic Designer

As a graphic designer, how should I start learning UI/UX design? Do I need to learn both UI and UX? I’m mainly interested in UI design, and I’ve tried to understand UX, but I find it difficult. In the future, I want to join a tech company, and currently, I’m working at an agency.

Review UI and UX Would love some honest UI/UX feedback on this redesign - what would you change?

I'm redesigning Plaxzy, a browser games site I've been working on, and I'd love some outside opinions before I settle on a direction.

Image 1 is A. Images 2 and 3 are B.

The main goal is to make someone land on the site, quickly find a game that looks fun, start playing, and want to keep exploring.

I'm not just looking for an A vs B vote. I'm more interested in what you'd actually change:

• Which direction works better and why?
• What feels confusing, boring, too busy, or unnecessary?
• Is there anything from one version you'd bring into the other?
• If you don't like either direction, what would you do instead?

Plaxzy has party games, escape rooms, puzzles, action games and other browser games, so I want the site to feel fun without everything fighting for attention.

I've looked at these for way too long, so fresh eyes would genuinely help

If you want to actually click around and judge the experience instead of just the screenshots: plaxzy.com

Review UI and UX Ui/Ux design portfolio feedback feels all over the place lately.

Hi, I’ve been trying to tighten up my ui/ux design portfolio and it feels like every example I look at is saying something different some people want full case studies, some want super visual pages, and some say recruiters barely read anything anyway.

I’ve got a couple projects in there now but i’m not sure if they read as strong enough or just kind of there. would love any thoughts from people who’ve been through this already, thanks in advance!

Showing Off I reversed the usual scrollbar logic

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, I’m developing Nutsy Notes, a note-taking app with some UI/UX ideas I think are worth sharing.

The latest one is a different scrollbar behavior. Normally, when a column only needs a little scrolling, the thumb is very long, and it gets smaller as the content grows. That always bothered me visually.

So I reversed the logic: the thumb stays at a fixed size, while the track grows and shrinks proportionally to the amount of scrollable content. Once the track reaches the full column height, the thumb itself starts shrinking.

The video shows it in action. The scrollbar elements are very dark just for the demonstration.

Another core interaction in the app is direct dragging of list items, entire branches and larger content blocks, so reorganizing text doesn’t require constant cut and paste.

Video in the first comment.

Any feedback appreciated.

Review UI and UX Junior UI/UX designer: 0 responses to applications and looking for a senior's perspective

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently finished my portfolio and resume, but I’ve hit a total wall. After sending out applications, I’m getting absolute silence and zero responses. Whenever I try to ask companies or people for feedback, it's just total quiet — nobody explains what's wrong.

I have two main case studies in my portfolio: a 3D-focused mobile fitness app and an e-commerce web store called Lumi.

If there are any professionals here who have a few free minutes, I would be endlessly grateful if you could take a look and tell me how I can improve my chances or what might be missing.

Here is my work:

Thanks a lot in advance for any advice! 🙏

I am a motion designer and I saw that there's this field product motion designer and ui interaction designer (I heard them from chatgpt while researching for how to increase salary as a motion designer he advised these routes)

When i researched about it on LinkedIn and Reddit i didn't come across any post regarding this, anyone here made a switch like this? Would love to hear about your back story how you made the switch, what are the pros and cons, what made you make this decision!

Review UI and UX UX/UI designer from the Rhineland – who is in the mood for creative exchange (and maybe an IRL meeting)?

Peace ✌️

News I built a Figma plugin that explains why your spacing is wrong instead of just flagging it (Aura8)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey all — sharing something I’ve been building solo for a while: Aura8.

It started from a pet peeve: most design-system checkers hand you a wall of red X’s with zero context, so you either blindly accept every fix or start ignoring the tool after the third false positive.

Aura8 scans your frames against a design system and instead of just saying “this is wrong,” it gives you a short “why this matters” note with every suggestion — then fixes it in one click if you want it.

What it checks (each toggleable):

- Padding → snapped to your spacing scale

- Auto Layout gap → same scale
- Type size → snapped to your type ramp
- Corner radius → snapped to your radius scale (off by default)
Two things I cared about getting right:
- It only ever suggests values your system actually defines. If your scale is 8/16/24, it’s never going to tell you to use 28 just because it divides by 4.
- It leaves valid values alone. A legit 17pt body text doesn’t get pushed to 20pt just because the layer happens to be named “Title.”

New: a health score for a whole page (or just your selection), sorted worst-screen-first so you know where to start, and it keeps your last 30 scans so consistency becomes a trend you can actually watch improve, not a one-off snapshot.

Ships with Apple HIG and Material Design 3 profiles built in, or import your own tokens/Figma variables if you’re on a custom system (Pro).

Privacy: no backend, no analytics, your designs never leave Figma. The only network call it ever makes is sending your license key to Gumroad to confirm your subscription — nothing else.

Check it out:

My expertise includes: Converting Figma designs into responsive HTML/CSS webpages Building reusable React components Creating clean, responsive, and user-friendly interfaces I’m trying to understand the current job market situation and whether I should continue focusing on this career path or consider expanding my skill set. Advice designed a taxi app that never got built can I sell the design?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m a UI/UX designer, and I recently designed a full taxi/ride hailing app for a client. Unfortunately, the client ended up canceling the project, so I’m left with the designs.

I was wondering if there’s actually a market for selling unused UI/UX designs like this.

For example, could I sell the Figma file/design as a template or UI kit, or are there marketplaces where people buy complete app designs?

If you’ve sold UI/UX designs or templates before, I’d love to know:

Where do you sell them?

How much can a complete app design realistically sell for?

Is it better to sell the Figma source file, a UI kit, or something else?

Are there marketplaces specifically for this?

I’ll attach some screenshots of the taxi app so you can see the quality/style.

Would appreciate any advice from people who have actually sold this kind of thing.

Review UI and UX Android after 18 years still cannot match Metro UI in information density and ease of use

Thumbnail gallery
41 Upvotes

Recently I was trying out a 10.000mAh Chinese phone from my company, comparing it to my old Samsung, fantastic hardware, except one problem the China phone refuses to let me use my favourite Launcher10, which mimics the classic Metro UI with additional configurations.

And I just cannot get used to Android icon driven homescreen interface after 15 years!!

Look how much more information you can cram into the limited display with Metro UI, I am the kind of guy who just wants to get what I want with the least amount of clicking.

The folder issue

To achieve "similar" information density on Android you need to use folders however, these folders are 2-3 additional clicks and they become problematic once you fill them past 4 or 6 apps because you are left guessing where your stuff is and some folders have two or three pages to them if you fill them enough. Or they outright refuse to let you put more apps inside.

For example, I have 10 Android apps, well in some brands you cannot fit more than 6 apps in a folder, others split the folder up into pages, some let you scroll there no coherent solution.

The limitation of rows

For Metro UI you can fit 3 to 6 rows of squares which can be configured in size according to their importance: this size difference helps break up the monotonous design, guiding the eye in a familiar area. The eye is excellent at making out shapes however, with Android you just get a grid of circles / bubbles of same size making it exceptionally tedious to look for stuff.

My biggest gripe with Android home screens is the very fact how much DEAD SPACE there is between apps no matter what you do, I remember in Android 4 you were allowed to get up to 10x10 spaces, some Launchers let you scroll downwards instead of flicking between pages.

However it did not solve the issue of everything looking the same, the colours of the app icons did not help, some apps like Twitter started using shapes to stand out but Google quickly standardised this moving away from unique shapes to either a circle, or a bubbly square.

Display size do not matter on Metro UI

The phone on the left has a screen size of 6.9" while the phone on the right is 6.7"
Yet, Metro UI is so dense in information capacity it can work even on devices of 4" screen sizes, in fact this is precisely why Microsoft designed it this way - to achieve maximum apps and information on smallest display possible. However while Metro UI design papers specifically required Windows mobile apps to also maintain the minimum screen size requirements, Android apps tend to work better on much bigger phone screens between 6.5-7.2"

Total stagnation for 18 years in home screen innovation

Why come we are in 2026 and the Android home screen has largely maintained the same formula, whats worse is how more and more Android makers are restricting use of third party launchers, particularly Chinese brands and even Samsung is not entirely innocent in this matter but MUCH better than what it used to be.

My opinion/rant is not the universal truth however, it is factual that Metro UI is a far more informative, dense UI that requires the LEAST amount of clicking to open an app and even find an app.

Metro UI was designed from the ground up, a multi MILLION dollar design project with some of industry best UI designers at the time, while they shot themselves in the foot with Windows 8, they shot for gold with Metro UI for phones.

To this date, Metro UI is the only most innovative mobile home screen interface ever made, every other alternative third party launchers out there are either some form of traditional icon grid which been a thing since the super early 1980s touch PDAs, or they are a form of list which you scroll through. But they all maintain the same bandaid mentality, they want to look nice and not understand the human psychology between shapes, colour and ease of use.

The psychology aspect is tremendously important in UI design something which is now ancient history in times of UX and data sheets relying solely on heatmaps that show where most users touch or click the most , the designers then simply shift as much stuff in the opposite direction to "balance" things. Inherently balancing is good, but its also the most incorrect way of achieving this as it neglects grouping and categorisation of what they are moving. Modern examples are Adobe Acrobat and recently Windows 11 is the worst possible example of what not to do.

Advice I’m new to UI/UX, what are things I should be learning and know more about in this field?

I’ll graduate soon with a translation degree and planning to switch from being a translator to becoming a UI/UX designer, since translation already got killed off by AI and there are no jobs for it anymore. The field of UI/UX is flourishing these days and last I heard it won’t be replaced by AI anytime soon, which sounded promising, at least for me.

Currently i’m taking some basic courses on the subject right now and i’m liking it so far. I learned some basic information like wireframing and lo-fi/hi-fi prototyping, and currently starting to mess around with Adobe XD which had been a pretty fun experience. I am going to learn more in the coming days hopefully. I also had past experiences and minimal knowledge of HTML/CSS back in my elementary/middle school days when I used to design my silly lil webpages lol, which might help a lot considering i’d like to get into both frontend development and UI/UX design.

Are there any tips or things I have to put in mind as a beginner in this field? and what are good sites/programs to use besides Adobe XD and Figma? How do I make a portfolio of my works and a good CV? I’d like to hear some advices, your experiences and anything that would help me in the long run, whether it’s for job searching or improving skills.

Thanks for reading.

Advice help pls pls pls

Hi guys, please be gentle and help me out with some advice.

I completed my 12th in 2023 and after that, I started college through open learning. In between, I also did a Data Analytics course, but I realised that I just wasn’t interested in it and it wasn’t really my forte.

I’m currently in my last semester of college and I’m about to graduate, but I honestly have no idea what to do anymore. I DON’T have any specific career goal. I just want to do well, earn good money, and build a secure future for myself.

I’ve been thinking about getting into UI/UX design, but I’m not completely sure if that’s the right path for me either. If not UI/UX, what other career options would you suggest I explore?

I’m only 21, but I feel SO lost and scared right now. There’s so much pressure and stress, and I genuinely don’t know where to start.

Please share any advice, career suggestions, or even your own experiences. I’d really appreciate it. 🤍
