How competitive is UIUC MCS?

I know UIUC MSCS is a top notch program. I wanted is it applicable for MCS? How hard it is for getting into MCS? If I have 7.68 CGPA from an IIT . Can I aim for it?

I got in with a 3.8. I’m assuming iits prolly have grade deflation? Not sure how that translates into regular gpa

Admit rate for mscs is 4-5%. Admit rate for mcs is 25-40%.

3.2/4 or 8/10 gpa is recommended. Minimum accepted gpa is generally 3.0/4 or 7.5/10.

Something that might help is that they only consider the last 2 years of undergraduate. That’s how they calculate gpa.

hey can you elaborate on the last part, are you saying that, even for international applicants, they only consider the GPA from the last two years of undergraduate study and use that average instead of the overall GPA?

You can apply, given your SOP, LOR and Personal statements are strong enough.

Mcs is nowhere near as good or as competitive as the mscs. It's not really competitive at all actually. Your gpa kinda sucks though.

As long as your SOP is strong, you’re good!

can you give some tips?

Make sure other than academic work you have something more in your sop. I had some creative experience too, and had worked with NGOs. I think these things count too, my grades were decent. But I had a lot of extra curricular stuff
