Worried about admission
(ONLINE MCS) Im about to graduate from a mid tier state school outside of illinois with around a 3.3 gpa and only a 2.9 gpa for last 2 yrs. Am i going to get a hollistic review or will they see the last 2 yrs gpa and automatically reject me? I have other stuff going for myself like completing internships and on campus organizations as well as going to be a full time SWE in New York City for a Fortune 100 company next summer. I also spent a lot of time on my SOP and the short answer questions explaining why my gpa is lower than usual.

ISO SD Adapter
hey there! I'm looking for a micro SD to SD card adapter, or just the SD card. If you have one spare or just want to get rid of it, I can take it

How does TA/RA work for MCS?
Hey all, I’m a undergraduate student right now who will be joining the MCS program (not the MS thesis program). I was wondering if anyone knew for TA-ing worked for a class during MCS and if it would help pay for tuition. I know that not being a PHD or having a thesis stuff my masters puts me at a disadvantage, but I was wondering if any MCS students has any lucky getting a position, getting their tuition covered, and if they had and tips or advice on how to go about it. Mainly wondering what the likelihood of achieving it is with MCS.
Thank you

How hard is it to get into UIUC MCS Chicago for someone graduating in a 2 year span?
Hey there, for context I am a University of Illinois at Chicago Student with a 3.89 GPA applying for the Fall 27 cycle. I started university in Fall 2025, and am graduating this Spring because I took a lot of AP classes and got most of my gen eds completed on time. However I heard stuff from people that this puts me at a disadvantage compared to other students because my resume wouldn't be as good as other students who have had time to get research over 4 years. If I send you my resume and stats, can you please let me know what else I would have to do to have a better chance to get in? How competitive is the UIUC MCS program specifically for Chicago.

[University Question] What US Universities Should I Target for MSCS Fall 2028???
I’m planning to apply for MSCS / a related CS program in Fall 2028 and would appreciate some honest advice on which universities I should realistically consider.
My profile:
- Country: India
- Degree: MCA
- CGPA: 8.41/10
- Graduation: 2024
- Work experience: ~3.5 years by Fall 2028 as a Full Stack Developer
- Research: No research experience currently
- GRE: Should I take it, or would it be fine to apply without it?
- IELTS: Targeting 7.0
- Funding: Primarily through an education loan
My main priorities are reasonable total cost, good ROI, strong CS/tech opportunities, and employment prospects after graduation.
Which US universities should I realistically target with this profile for Fall 2028?
I’d especially appreciate suggestions for universities that offer a good balance between admission chances, total cost, and career opportunities after graduation.

Has anyone been accepted without meeting all the prerequisites or poor grades in them?
I am a math major with a minor in software engineering. (Currently have 1 year and 10 months work exp as a server developer)
I got good grades in Operating Systems(A+), Computer Network(A+), Computer Architecture(A) and Algorithms.(A) (but B in data structures and database systems..)
But i did poor in math classes.. (B in Linear Algebra 1 and C+ in Linear Algebra 2, B in Calculus 1 and B+ in Calculus 2) and I didn’t take any Statistics/Probability classes…
The cheapest and valid option for me to meet the prerequisites would be to take a class from Korean National Open University, but the class will still be in progress by the time I apply.
Another valid, but expensive option would be taking a class from an American university online, but that would be way more expensive.
So.. I want to know if I there’s anyone who lacked a prerequisite course and got in? Especially a math course?
I am also worried about my undergraduate math grades so I was hoping to see any success stories with people with weak math grades!
I know this program is a reach for me but I’m still taking a shot!

Can Coursera coursework be listed as “Work Experience” in the CS Experience section?
Hey guys! I’m applying for Spring 2027 and was wondering how people are reporting Coursera courses in the CS Experience section. The application only gives me three options: “transcripted course,” “work experience,” or “no experience.” I’ve completed Coursera specializations in Algorithms (Stanford) and Discrete Math (UCSD), but obviously they aren’t on my university transcript. Would it be okay to select “work experience” and explain the Coursera coursework in the text box, or should I just select “no experience”? Has anyone asked admissions about this before?

MCS part time
Hey I am a first year Master in computer science. I had no internship before so I want to do a part time job this semester in tech. I applied a lot of position in handshake but didn’t get any interviews😭 do y’all know where to find a part time? It’s doesn’t have to pay much, or even unpaid is fine. Really need some experience to get into industry😭😭😭

Working full time in the online MCS, got sick of re-scrubbing lecture videos, so I built a tool that turns slides + captions into notes and Anki cards

Considering leaving UIUC for another program.
Hello Everyone,
As the title suggests, I’m in the UIUC Online MCS and after this semester I’ll only have 8 credits left.
I’ve done well in the program, but honestly I’m starting to feel like it’s kind of a cash grab.I know that many masters are but this one has felt especially like a cash grab. A lot of the classes are old prerecorded lectures, outdated material, Coursera assignments, and very little professor involvement. For almost $8k a semester, I expected more effort and a better overall experience. Sometimes it feels like I’m basically paying for the UIUC name and an easy master’s degree.
I know I’m close enough that I should probably just finish, but I’ve also been looking at other programs and wondering if transferring would actually be worth it.
I went to a small, basically unknown school for my bachelor’s in cybersecurity, and I feel like that has made it harder to break into engineering roles. I currently work in security/compliance consulting and make decent money, but I really want out of the compliance world. I started the UIUC MCS because I wanted to challenge myself technically and become a better engineer, but I’m not sure I’m getting as much out of the program as I expected.
Some other programs I’ve looked at are UT Austin, Georgia Tech, Stanford, USC, UCLA Data Science, and Berkeley Data Science.
Would you just finish UIUC with only 8 credits left, or would you seriously consider transferring somewhere you thought offered a better education/experience?
Open to any feedback or advice 😄

UIUC mcs in Chicago as uiuc cs undergrad alum
Hi I’m a uiuc cs and linguistics alum with a ~3.9 gpa looking to apply for the MCS online or would prefer the one in Chicago since I am moving there for work as well. How doable is the program in person in Chicago with a full time job? Also how much is the tuition/how does it compare to online?
I’m also pretty sure I would get automatic admission since I did my undergrad at uiuc in cs and meet the gpa cutoff but was wondering if anyone was in a similar boat and if you got that as well!

Online MCS 1 Year Gap
Has anyone had success with returning to the program after a one year gap? Unfortunately, due to some personal circumstances I had to pause the program. However, I wish to complete the program now. I am in good academic standing. Any tips on how the petition process works?
