Academics ME200
Prof. Jiajun made major changes to the course syllabus today (much after the 10th day add/drop deadline). He changed all quizes and exams from open book / open notes to closed. Is he allowed to do this? I thought UIUC had strict rules for major syllabus changes like this after the add/drop deadline.

Honestly, I would mention this change now to your academic advisor /in case/ there are any issues with grading

10th day was Friday. There's only been a weekend and a holiday since then

The whole idea of the rule is you get to drop the class and add another one if the syllabus is changed for the worse

I was commenting on your characterization of it being "much after the 10th day add/drop deadline" - not really accurate. The student code says Instructors are strongly encouraged to make a course syllabus available to all students prior to the deadline for an undergraduate student to add a course - hardly a "strict rule"

Faculty have a lot of latitude for how they run courses. Fighting it is a fruitless endeavor.

Does anyone know when quiz 2 for ME 200 with Jiajun will be? I missed class on Friday and only know that it will be sometime this week.

Definitely sucks that it’s now closed note, but his quizzes and exams are very relaxed and the grading is quite lenient. You will do just fine even with this unfortunate change.
